Glitzy French Riviera: Cannes

When we think of the French Riviera (the Cote d'Azur region), there are two cities that top the list on our minds: Cannes and Monaco - well, the latter being actually a country itself.

These two communes are utterly world famous that writers, journalists, and the rest of the media industry hails them as ‘the place to be’. I guess that’s about as much introduction I can truly make or add really.

Glitzy Cannes (Uh, huh...?)

I took this foto just right after a grueling search for a parking spot. I lost 30 minutes going back and forth on Promenade de la Croissette with a mad persistent French granny on the wheel trailing me behind and brusquely trying to squeeze her car into any available space she can maneuver into – traffic is infuriating in Cannes!, until I found the underground parking from where I stood to take this picture.

These guys are playing the French ball game called ‘sjoulen’ (not sure what it’s called in French) in Cannes. I think they liked that I took a picture of them as they started talking to me. I replied with a smile and a nod =) and that is my coffee receipt pooped by a bird. Luckily it did not hit my head.

The world renowned International Film Festival takes place here. All forms of media and paparazzi come here to feast and later continue their gossip on celebrity and fashion columns.

The stench of power, glamour, and wealth in the coastlines is evident. I use the word ‘stench’ loosely because I am not quickly awed at these worldly potions. Power, glamour, and wealth - being the ultimate of what most human beings yearn for. I don’t like to sound stuck up, but frankly speaking I am bored to death with these display of unreserved worldliness. Especially when the motive is but to show off and keep up with the joneses, I don’t have the patience and I get effortlessly tired. Big yawn.

Not that I don’t like haute couture, a lucrative lifestyle, attention, and a few expensive things here and there, well yes I don’t mind a dose of those as I have had and indulged in them from time to time. But I guess I prefer the low-profile existence from the flambouyant materialistic lifestyle.

There was an open-air market as well.

If there’s one thing I truly love about Cannes it would have to be its spectacular sunset. I was caught by surprise at the amazing colors of the skies. Simply breathtaking! This picture did not do justice on what I witnessed.

However though, if I had more time flexibility, I would have loved to ‘people watch’ in Cannes and Monaco, but since time was not on my side, I didn’t get to (and I was not in the mood anyway). That also means I don’t have many fotos to show off in this blog, ha-ha!
