Mutant boat in Leiden, Netherlands

While Dutchman and I were having coffee on a boat terrace along the lovely canals of Rembrandt’s birth city, Leiden last Sunday, this motorized floating specimen with a ‘Hup Holland Hup’ banner in front, um too late for World Cup don’t you think, came sailing by.

Question: (a) Is it a floating sofa? (b) Is it a wooden raft? (c) Is it a surfboard? (d) Is it a boat?
Answer: All of the above! lol

It even has a Dutch car license plate number, lol. (see yellow plate on the left side)

Well, basically the construction is like this: they attached 3 surfboards underneath the wooden raft, tie everything together in place and put 2 sofas on top. Add a motor, voila it’s a motorized boat! Genius, these students =)

The Germans from the other table asked us if the mutant boat is legal. We said it ‘could’ be legal but we are not sure, adding that the police normally check the size of the motor. These Germans always hit technicality home. Why I am not surprised?
