Oldest Olive Tree in Exo Hora, Zakynthos
From Kilomenos, also known as Agios Nikolaos town, we continued our journey up north, passing through Loucha, Agios Leon and finally arriving in Exo Hora.
Exo Hora or Exo Chora is a small village that is famous for its oldest living olive tree. It’s easy to spot the tree because its right on the corner junction of the main street. The olive tree is said to be more than 2,000 years old and have now branched out into two. It looks ugly and monstrous, yet fascinating.
Trees like these offers a fantasy twist. They remind me of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series. Like I have this creepy thought that any second the tree will come alive. That one of its branches will grab me. The trunk itself will turn into a gigantic monster mouth that will devour me. Then somehow I seemed to have survived the scary ordeal. I am then transplanted into another world. A world that is unknown to humans...
Anyway, I think this is the 3rd oldest olive tree I have seen in Greece. The first one was in Crete many years ago and the second one was in Kos, also years ago.

Lots of olive trees plantation in the island.
We lost our way here so we stopped to inspect a map bulletin on the road and turned back, this time heading to Exo Hora.
The tree greeted us upon arriving in Exo Hora. This more than 2,000 year old tree is not hard to miss from the road.
Tree is still bearing olives.
Holidaygoer grandma in her bright sun dress crossing the street. Love the colours of this traditional old house in Exo Hora.
