On top of Mithymna (Molyvos) Fortress

It’s nice to reminisce summer at this time of the year. This past week has been a very misty week in the Netherlands. When we woke up this morning and looked out to the window, we saw nothing but very thick fog. Right now I am cuddled in my big leather sofa chair with a soft throw pillow on my side, a warm plaid over me and drinking hot tea while typing this. Earlier I had a mug of hot chocolate.

I still have a LOT of entries to post for our Lesbos Island—Greek summer holiday. So there’s many to come.

Mithymna (previously known as Molyvos) is a very picturesque town in the north of the island. On top of this hilly town sits a 13th century fortress, still in-tact and well-preserved. I didn’t get to go inside the citadel but managed to check out the outside surroundings.

Dutchman on the other hand was bathing under the sun while waiting for me. He loves this part of the holiday so much--baking himself under the sun. The Netherlands are a sun deprived country, well most of the times, so this kind of odd behaviour is very familiar with Dutch people.

From the top of the citadel the views are spectacular. It gives you the feeling of peace and freedom. At least that's what I felt when I was there. The views are definitely enough reason to climb up here.

The picturesque winding road going up to Mithymna/Molyvos fortress.

Outstanding views from the top of the fortress!

Lovely view of seaside villages and the coastline.

When in Mithymna, don’t miss the chance to go up to the fortress.
