Booked: Long weekend road trip to 3 European countries

This is a short part of a road trip that I have been eyeing for in a looooong time. Time has always been the issue why I cannot fill my heart’s desire to travel and explore the world, but even with this challenge, I always make time to travel. Just one city, and one country, at a time.

I have to admit though that sometimes I do not understand myself and why I have this insatiable desire to travel and explore the world. I would have loved to do it on a faster pace but that is quite impossible given the priorities and responsibilities I have in life. I’m not a big fan of long-term travelling (at least for now) because after some time on the road, I know I will miss home. I will miss the Dutchman terribly. More importantly, I maintain a career that is an essential aspect of my future’s well-being, and sanity as well so to speak.

Even though I am living quite a good life right now, I still have many years down the road. Questions such as--How sustainable is this travelling lifestyle? Can I maintain the same lifestyle now when I finally retire (I hope early) from work? Am I putting away enough for my future? (I find it very important to separate my own financial net worth from the Dutchman)

Because we never know what tomorrow brings

And this is one of the reasons why I travel as well now, spend a bit and enjoy life’s pleasures. In the moment. Because we never know what tomorrow brings. And travelling makes me happy, it makes me fulfilled in some way.

Nevertheless, I have booked this Central-West European solo road trip, in this particular order, in these following cities:

Heidelberg, Germany
Colmar, France and the surrounding Alsace Wine Route Villages
Basel, Switzerland
Strasbourg, France
Bonn, Germany

The first 4 cities have close proximity to each other and are between an hour and 2 hour’s drive (5-6 hours from the Netherlands), and let me add, they are all beautiful and exquisite places. Just look at the collage I made above! I had to rethink about Basel though but in the end I made a decision to add the city into the list. It’s very near from Colmar anyway.

Getting a bit excited again. Leaving at the end of the month, but will be back for Queen’s Day and the Orange throne succession of Queen Beatrix to Prince soon-to-be-King Willem Alexander (on the 30th of April).

Travel Period: April 2013
Destination: Germany (Heidelberg), France (Colmar & Strasbourg), Switzerland (Basel)
