Tasty and Affordable: Vietnam Garden Restaurant in Kowloon, Hong Kong

Our last dinner in Hong Kong was at this delicious low-key allegedly Vietnamese restaurant in Mong Kok, Kowloon.

Vietnam Garden Restaurant
Address: 107 Fa Yuen Street in Mong Kok, Kowloon

I would describe this restaurant as a no-nonsense type of restaurant. The owner is hands on manning the cashier but is on top of everything as well, making sure the customers are served right away, the timing of food coming out of the kitchen to the table, the turnover quick, the tables cleaned and are ready for the next set of customer. It gives me the impression that the restaurant is not only a place to eat but it is indeed a business that people depend their living on.

This is also supposed to be a Vietnamese restaurant but it looks like an undercover Cantonese-Thai restaurant because of the dishes they serve. They might want to change the name into Vietnam inspired Garden Restaurant, hehe. They do have tasty food though and very affordable as well.

And speaking about Vietnam, I would love to go to there! Visit Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, and eat Vietnamese food everyday. I actually envy my brother who is currently there at the moment.

We have enjoyed this dinner. My review: 4 stars out of 5 in my book.

The restaurant is very affordable. Look at the prices, not bad. HK$45 = €4.2 | US$5.8

The restaurant is very busy, always full.

We were served with complimentary hot tea first.

Roasted Pork Cheek with Sweet n Sour Sauce. This dish is more Chinese Cantonese!

Pineapple fried rice with shrimps, eggs, spices and topped with lots of deep-fried garlic. This is more Thai I think?

Battered fried chicken with orange. This is quite good and I think this is more Cantonese (or Asian in general).

Fried soft shell crab salt and pepper. This is also very nice and more an Asian dish in general.

Chinese style dinner: Chopsticks, laddle spoon and small bowls instead of plates =) but the parents asked for a fork whilst sisterJ was at home with her chopsticks and moi a bit struggling with them (if I have to be honest).
