Postcards from Lille (Rijsel), France

I have been wanting to visit this so underrated French city in the north of the country (yet south from moi) for years. Lille. FINALLY.

Lille (or Rijsel in Dutch) is beautiful. I am blown away by its stunning architecture. I am glad I came to visit. The city is in the French Flanders area and the local cuisine, as well as its architecture, are very much influenced by the Flanders region which is very Belgian, or rather Flemish.

Porte de Paris of Lille taken from the Belfry Tower.

Lille Chamber of Commerce and the Opera de Lille on Place du Theatre.

At the Grand Place, the main square of Lille. If you come here with the car there is parking under this square, so convenient and cheap.

Lille has many of these charming narrow streets filled with stores, cafes, patisseries, restaurants and other commercial establishments.

Yup, I am in France: patisseries et viennoiseries.

The inner courtyard of Vieille Bourse. There is a book and painting market as well as men playing chess and other board games.

More stories and pictures about this lovely city soon.

  1. Thank you so much for referring to Lille's Flemish background. It is one of my favorite cities and France has done its best to erase the Flemish culture. My ancestors are from this area.
