Ljubljana at night

Ljubljana was the biggest surprise for me during this trip. I didn’t realise the city was so darn beautiful. I was stoked!

I arrived in the capital city late in the afternoon but didn’t go out of my hotel room right away as I was quite tired and I wanted to rest. When I finally went out to the centre, which is just behind my hotel by the way, it was starting to get dark. When I am travelling alone and in a big city I tend to choose hotels right in the smack of the city centre. Mainly for the reason of safety.

The first time I saw the core centre of Ljubljana, and this is the river embankment where the Triple Bridge is located, I was so taken. So stoked by the whole lovely place, it just oozes with so much charm. The beautiful well-lighted historical buildings on the Preseren Square and the Ljublanica River flowing under the Triple Bridge gave a certain elegance and calmness amidst the pulsating energy the whole place is offering.

I could not wait for morning to come =)

For the evening I did a little stroll around town before having dinner. Here are the pictures I took on the first night, as well as a few on the second night.

Here is my route. I came from popular coastal town Izola:

You can move the map with your mouse, as well as zoom it in and out by clicking on the + and - signs on the lower right hand side.

I was greeted by a very high-energy Ljubljana.

The Triple Bridge (Tromostovje) and you can see a glimpse of the Ljubljana Castle straight ahead.

The beautiful Franciscan Church of Annunciation on the Preseren Square.

The Preseren Square that connects the modern and medieval part of the city.

The Preseren Square is named after France Preseren, the national poet of Slovenia and there is a monument with his statue on the square.

All the action is on the river bank. Lots of outdoor terraces here (especially across and on the other side from this picture). The embankments are the place to be.

The embankments on Ljubljanica River are a busy scene in the evening.

The Ljubljana Castle is behind these row of buildings.

The Ljubljana Town Hall on Stari Trg.

The well courtyard in the Town Hall of Ljubljana.

A pretty and elegant bridge, the Cobbler's Bridge

I considered staying at these 2 boutique hotels in the city centre, however, both hotels do not have parking, so that was an easy decision to let go.

The Triple Bridge with beautiful balustrade work. Three bridges in one.

Outdoor cafe terraces are everywhere in town.
