Slovenia: A Peek into Izola's School of Music

After my visit to Piran I stopped by neighbouring coastal town Izola, which is also a famous place in western Slovenia.

I do not have plans of staying long in Izola. The visit was going to be just a quick stopover on my way to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia which is my main destination in this third leg of the road trip. While I was checking Piran online, I saw nice pictures of Izola and after a quick Googlemaps check, I found out that is it just a 20-minute drive, and is along the way anyway to Ljubljana so I might as well stop by.

I quickly found parking along the harbour and walked to the town center. While walking around town I bumped into a pretty building in the middle of a residential quarter. I heard music inside, as if someone was practicing a musical instrument. Then I heard violin being played, and then a piano tune. Curious, I lingered a bit and saw children going in and out of the premises. The entrance door was open so I decided to go inside. My interest has been piqued. Where does the music come from? What is this pretty building all about?

Yup, I am a curious cat indeed. This is not the first or second time that I have walked inside a building uninvited =)

Then a woman with a little boy stepped inside the hallway. She saw me looking around curiously and taking pictures, and came to me informing me that I should go upstairs because it is beautiful up there. She did not speak a word of English, it was all in Slovenian but I can perfectly understand what she wanted to tell me. So I followed her advice and went up, and oh dear, she was so right. Upstairs I found the most stunning part of the building, the main salon, where perhaps they conduct the recitals.

The building I realised is a (children's) music school.

Here is the route from Piran to Izola:

You can move the map with your mouse and you can as well zoom it in and out by clicking on the + and - signs on the lower right hand side.

The first thing I saw approaching Izola:

Izola has a relatively big yacht harbour. More pictures of Izola on my next entry. This is just a teaser =)

The woman who dropped off her son at the music school. She invited me to go upstairs to see the beautiful interior of the the building and its main salon. She spoke in Slovenian but I clearly understood her when she signalled me with her arm to go upstairs =)

This is the main salon of the building. So beautifully adorned with wall paintings as part of its decor. I tiptoed across the room as a teacher and a student were busy rehearsing.

Teacher on the piano and the little boy on the cello.

Stunning ceiling and balcony of the main salon of the music school. I guess this is where they hold their recitals.

A ceiling detail in another room. Pretty.

Prosimo, zapirajte vrata! Please close the door says the sign, so I did before leaving the school.
