Aperitivo at the Missori Cafe in Milan, Italy

This is what I love about in the big Italian cities, the aperitivo culture, and in other words, the Happy Hour or pre-dinner cocktail drinks and eats. I however noticed that the aperitivo culture is mainly practiced in the northern part of Italy. Rome does it as well but it is very clear that the tradition is more observed in the north than in the south.

I remember a few years back, Blondine and I were having some drinks at the Piazza Bra of Verona where we were pampered by the waiters with little eats. The free snacks just kept on coming, we had to skip dinner because our tummies were already full, haha.

In Milan, we had aperitivo at Missori Cafe, which is the café and hotel bar of Hotel dei Cavalieri where we stayed at in the city. Blondine and I had a long day in Lake Como so having the aperitivo at our hotel’s lobby than going somewhere else was very convenient for us. Although we would really have wanted to go to a few popular aperitivo places, we were just so tired, especially Blondine who needed the rest most.

Blondine ordered some Margarita whilst I settled for a Negroni. Naturally, as per Italian tradition we can pick any of the little eats at the bar to go with our aperitivo drinks. Admittedly, we were a little bit hungry, so we got carried away and ended up eating more than we should have. Uh, shameful I know.

Because we did ate enough, we skipped the real dinner for that night and ordered instead a charcuterie room service which we loved to bits.

Our sharp looking bartender is making our drinks.

I like this one, chicken salad with roasted pine nuts.

Some kind of omelette tart, also very nice.

All these little salty snacks to go with our apertivo drinks: a Negroni (for moi) and a Margarita (for Blondine).

Oh dear, we took more eats from the bar. We have no shame =)
