A Cool City Beach Café Hang Out in Amsterdam North: PLLEK

A very interesting city beach café restaurant that functions as a venue for yoga, musical concerts, disco dancing, DJ parties, art shows, movies, cultural stuff and even activities for kids. They have a full agenda during the summer season with varying creative and fun themes.

This is also more of a local Amsterdammer’s hangout. Not many tourists know about this place unless they are being tipped by a local.

I love the laid back atmosphere, the creative, light and fun, very hip and come what way feel of this place. There’s sand on your feet. The water glistens against the streaks of sun shining through the cloudy skies.

Over all, PLLEK is a great place to hang out and chill, whether it’s for a quick drink, a long lunch or a relaxing dinner. No wonder it is very popular amongst the locals! You can see the rest of Amsterdam city just across the water.

I totally went paparazzi mode when I was here. It makes me feel good when I am able to take candid pictures of people. I would love to develop this hobby when I retire. I just hope that pocket cameras will be far more advanced in 5-10 years time as I have no ambition of moving to a heavy DSLR camera.

To come here without a car or a bike, you will have to take the boat (pontje) at the back of Amsterdam Centraal Station or at the Tasmanstraat. The café restaurant and venue closes daily way past midnight at 01:00 and during the weekends (Friday and Saturday), they are open until 03:00 in the morning.

Man-made beach with white sand in Amsterdam North. I do not think you can swim in here though.

Going into the kitchen here.

You can also lounge in here.

A free entry Midsummer Night event last June held at Pllek.

I am paparazzing here, haha. The nice thing with a pocket camera is I can do it really subtly.

The view to the River Het IJ. You can see Amsterdam Centraal Station across the waters on the left.

An outdoor lounge area.

Where is the DJ?

A very busy day here at the Pllek. This was on a Saturday afternoon.

A place for the young and old.

Pllek's sandy beach. This was during May and the weather was not really that great. During warm weather days, this beach area would be full.

The cargo shipping containers have a new home here at Pllek.

Parking here is cheap! Just 1.30 Euro per hour (compared to the 5 Euro per hour or 2 Euro per 20 minutes in the city centre).

Visit Period: May 2015
Destination: Amsterdam North (Amsterdam – North Holland), The Netherlands
