Charming Marktplatz (Market Square) of Ahrweiler Town

Is this a charming place or what?

The town (twin towns) Bad Neuenahr- Ahrweiler is the capital of the Ahrweiler District, the largest producer of Spätburgunder, a red wine grape variety in Germany. Spätburgunder is the domestic version of Pinot Noir in Germany.

Between the two towns, Ahrweiler is the better looking. It is in fact the prettiest town in Ahrweiler, with stunning and colourful half timber houses and its core centrum protected by ancient fortified walls and towers. No wonder it proudly bears the same name as its district.

Now these pictures were taken in the marktplatz (market square) of the town Ahrweiler. One can easily spend an hour or two here. Just sitting in one of the outdoor cafe terraces, enjoying the lively atmosphere, watching everyone passing by and just really taking in the time to relish the little pleasures in life.

You know, when you go slow in your travels and smell the roses, and in this case, sit in a cafe terrace and watch people for hours (hehe), you learn to really appreciate life a little bit more.

Anyway, I have loads of pictures of the lovely enchanting town, so there are more to come!

Can you see the vineyard terraces at the back of the building?

Charming half-timber houses that Germany is famous for.

The market square is quite big and has pockets of cafe terraces with the church in the middle.

It is very busy here as you can see.

The St. Laurentius Church in the middle of the marktplatz.

One of my favourites places in Ahrweiler.
