Dinner by the Sea at Il Familia Taverna in Sami (Cephallonia, Greece)
This taverna has got to be one of the classy and hushed ones in Sami. We found the local taverna on the shore at the end of the commercial harbour, left from the village centre.
Dutchman and I always love to dine by the sea during our summer holidays. It is perhaps a recurring theme every time we go out for dinner, unless the restaurant is not located on the waterfront, then it is the view that is important of course. The ambiance and who your company is counts a lot in the enjoyment of your food.
We were quite lucky to have arrived on time because we took the last table by the sea.
I do not know why but there is a sense of magic and relief when you hear the waves splashing against the shore whilst having dinner and light conversation. It is like soothing background music to the ears and soul.
Hello from moi =)
As you can see the restaurant is located very near the Sami harbour. You can easily walk from the town centre to here.
You can see the town of Sami in the distance below.
We had dinner here one evening on the promenade as well. You can read and see the pictures of this dinner in this link: Soutzoukakia, Grilled Seabass, Beef Stifado at Restaurant Adonis in Sami
Sharing is the new name of the game during holidays. It helps not only in bringing down dinner costs, but the inches in our waistlines as well.
Here is the shared starter: Spring Roll filled with Feta Cheese and Chives.
This is my main course: A delicious Grilled Squid topped with lemon sauce and some grilled paprika, aubergine and courgette dressed with olive oil and sweet balsamico.
I thought the sweet balsamico was not needed. The crunchy grilled squid however was very nice.
Dutchman had some Grilled Chicken with gravy and sides of rice and fries.
Too many carbohydrates on this plate methinks. Men however need their daily dosage of carbohydrates and the Dutchman is surely not complaining.
A close up of this yummylicious Grilled Squid. This coming summer, I am ordering you again!
Coffee to go with our dessert. Espresso for me and a Cappuccino for the Dutchman.
It was also getting a bit chilly from the wind and glad I have my ever trusting shawl with me. I always carry one anywhere and everywhere I go. I carry a light fabric shawl during spring and summer and a thicker one for autumn and winter.
Dessert from the house, Greek Halva Cake with a shot of local Greek liqueur digestive. I cannot remember the name but this is quite similar to the Hungarian Unicum.
I have nothing bad to say about the service. Great location and good food. This was a very nice Greek dinner by the sea. Highly recommended place in Sami!
Until next summer then =)

Il Familia is a family owned restaurant and I do wonder if its them, just styled vintage, on the picture of the menu card. I never asked.
So here is the actual dinner.
We started with toasted bread in butter and herbs, white cheese flavoured in chives as dip and some pickled black olives. Oh, I had some local white wine as well while Dutchman prefers his soda, a lemon Fanta.
