Zurich: I Stayed at Hotel Uto Kulm in Uetliberg for the Panoramic Views

I am a sucker for panoramic views. Well, any views on that matter really...

The view of Zurich from my hotel room window.

In Zurich, I stayed at the Hotel Uto Kulm in Uetliberg, the highest mountain in the Zurich plateau, mainly for the panoramic city views. The hotel sits at the summit of the only mountain in the city so it offers the best views of Zurich and nearby surroundings.

The decision to stay here was also made easy when I learned that Uetliberg is reachable by train from Zurich Hbf. The journey only takes 20 minutes and there are trains running every half an hour until midnight. Not bad at all, I thought.

Greek Islands: An Evening in Lefkada Town and Dinner at Taverna Kato Vrisi

It has been more than a year since we were in Lefkada Island for the yearly Greek summer holiday.

Pedestrian-only shopping streets of Lefkada town.

Taverna Kato Vrisi where we had dinner.

The capital city bears the same name of the island and is easily reached from mainland Greece via a causeway and a floating bridge. When we were there (2016) the floating bridge was under repair and they temporarily used a ferry as the bridge, which is quite an ingenious workaround to solve a problem.

Because we were staying in Nydri, which is about half an hour from Lefkada town, we only managed to visit the town once, but have passed by many times though on our route to other destinations in the island and even beyond, when we went on a day trip to Preveza in the mainland.

Lefkada, Greece: Lovely Dinner at the Seaside Restaurant in Geni

This was our last dinner in Lefkada. I am not sure if we saved the best for last, but this was one of the good dinners we have had on the island.

The view from the Geni peninsula.

I was quite curious about Seaside Restaurant because, on TripAdvisor, it is rated as the number 1 restaurant on Lefkada Island (Greece). The reviews were smashing and its location promises to be gorgeous. The restaurant is located in Geni, a peninsula, not too far away from where we were staying in Nydri.

We were originally booked into a small apartment-villa style in Geni, unfortunately, the property was overbooked and the travel agency cam back with other options, which is why we ended up at the hotel apartment in Nydri. Not too bad really because we have a big balcony, lots of space in the apartment and a nice pool area.

Outdoor Dining Scene and Local Market in Nydri, Lefkada

Outdoor markets and food centers are not a big thing in the Greek Islands. I do not really know why.

I am not complaining though because the islands have more to offer than just markets, such as the picture above of alfresco dining right by the water. Oh, my cup of tea really =)

It is a bit similar to going skiing in Austrian Alps where you get the best apres ski bars a winter sport holiday can offer, but Austria does not have the gourmet-style outdoor food markets that France has though. I guess Greece is something like this as well.

Visiting the Christmas Market in Duisburg, Germany

It is that time of the year again! The holiday season. Christmas.

I have invited the Dutch mother and her niece to go with us to a Christmas Market in Germany. We were thinking of the nearest city from the border near us which would either be Oberhausen or Duisburg. We picked Duisburg for no particular reason. Lucky that Dutchman went with us. I could always use a driver going back while I snooze =)

We were able to quickly find an underground parking garage in Duisburg, and a strategic one at the Forum, which is the city's biggest modern shopping mall located on Konigstrasse, the same street where the Christmas Market is.

Photos of the Amsterdam Gay Pride Canal Parade 2017

These photos are a bit late but better late than never =)

The Amsterdam Gay Pride Canal Parade is a yearly event held in the summer usually on the first Saturday of August.

I think it is a unique event for the Gay Pride movement because most of the parade events around the world happen on the streets, but in Amsterdam, the LGBT's strut their stuff on board boats and floats. The whole setting is grand, fun, special and unique.

Best Balkan Trip Meal: Seafood Platter at Lacroma Restaurant on Lokrum Island

I am not joking. Bubbles and I swear on this meal.

Mouthwatering -devour me now- lunch in Lokrum Island.

We are enjoying these lemon beers =)

Our delicious lunch at Lacroma Restaurant (LR) on Lokrum Island in Dubrovnik, Croatia was the best ever meal in our Balkan road trip last April. We cannot really think of another meal that can come that close to this. Seriously.

Hats off to the chef! I am even getting hungry now as I write this!

Lokrum Island (Croatia): Benedictine Abbey Ruins, Annunciation Church and Game of Thrones

April is not the best time to visit Dubrovnik if the intention is to visit the outlying islands. It’s still a bit cold and you will not be able to swim. May perhaps is much better.

The Benedictine Abbey ruins in Lokrum Island.

In the boat going to Lokrum Island and leaving Dubrovnik behind.

But Bubbles and I wanted to see something else while in Dubrovnik and based on my readings online, the nearest and easiest to reach the island from Dubrovnik old town is Lokrum. When we arrived, we right away investigate on how we are going to buy the boat tickets. We learned that we can just buy them onsite at the harbour before leaving. But to make sure, we bought the tickets a day ahead.

We were quite excited about this little side trip because it’s new and different. It gives our road trip a different angle as we are taking a boat to an island.
