Yiassou! Welcome Lunch in Pigadia, Karpathos

It has been a whirlwind of craziness at work so I am very glad that I am here now in the Greek Islands, unwinding.

It is hot here and we are on our second day in Karpathos. We are staying in the town capital and have rented an aparthotel for the next 2 weeks. We haven't done much so far except eating, sleeping, and lounging at the pool. I have started reading a new book though if that counts. Well, I did work early this morning, because like I earlier said, it's been a whirlwind of happenings at work so I have to catch up with so many things.

Anyway, I just woke up from a deep afternoon nap and waiting for the Dutchman to wake up as well. So while waiting, I thought I will blog our first meal on the island. The welcome to Karpathos lunch we had yesterday.

This lunch was the like coming home to Greece. The Greek Islands are our summer holiday destination every year. We have grown to love the islands and although we holiday on different islands each year (we will be coming back to a few!), every island always feel like coming home every time. Coming home to a "summer home" for 2 weeks.

When Dutchman and I retire, we plan on going for a longer period and perhaps twice in a year. We shall see.

So while walking towards the town center yesterday looking for a place to have lunch, we saw this cute taverna in very Greek colours on the beach. The "Sea Side Lunch Bar" looks perfect to me =)

Of course, we feasted right away on a Greek Salad, some courgette croquettes with tzatziki and garlic bread. The first bite of the salad was the feeling of elation that I am back on the Greek Isles. The second bite is of contentment. I am really happy that I (rather we) have found our summer place.

This light lunch was a very lovely welcome lunch.


Traditional Greek Salad - always best eaten when in Greece during the summer months! Just look at those plump, juicy and sweet tomatoes.


Courgette (Zucchini) Croquettes. They were quite spicy and really nice.


Really good. This was the best courgette croquettes I have ever had so far and I have eaten a lot of them on the islands in the past.
