This was during one of my transfers last year 2014. I have just arrived at Haneda International Airport in Tokyo from Manila. My next flight is not until 4 hours later at the Haneda Domestic Airport which means I have to take the shuttle bus outside the airport to get there. I also wanted to rest a bit my feet. I was just recovering from Pneumonia that sent me to a week in the hospital and I need to take care of myself and not exert too much effort. Moreover, I was craving for some raw fish so I searched for a place to sit down, relax and eat. I found this restaurant amongst the cluster of restaurants just above the check-in counters. It was dawn, very early in the morning and this is one of the very few restaurants that operate on a 24-hour basis. One of the things typically Japanese that fascinated me to no end is ‘Soraben’ (or ‘Sora-ben’). It is a type of bento box for take-away at the airports. It is basically a packed lunch or dinner for passengers to eat during their journey. So the pack food is very nicely presented in a bento take-away box and in it are a variety of small portions of food. I was very tempted to buy a few boxes to try out. They looked so attractive, tasty and intriguing. I mean where else in the world can you buy packed lunch or dinner in style and this pretty? These soraben boxes though I saw at the Haneda Domestic Airport. You cannot miss them with their excellent packaging. I thought at first they were souvenir gifts, but worse than that I thought they were culinary books, lol. So I have booked the tickets! The land of the rising sun: Japan flag. Dutchman and I will be staying mostly in Tokyo. Actually, I still have to draw up our plan, although I already have a list of stuff to see and do. I am looking forward to eating lots of ramen, sushi and sashimi =) The special wards or districts of Tokyo. We will be staying in the Chuo area which is in the heart of metropolitan Tokyo. The pearl of the orient seas: the Philippine flag I will be going to both cities, Cebu and Manila. This trip will be a mix of business and pleasure, and I have already been dreaming of chicken inasal! And oh, the fresh seafood as well. Just a few more weeks...
