Firstly, I have no idea about the cuisine in Slovenia. The only thing I know is that Central and Eastern Europe is all about meat. I love my vegetables but when I am travelling I am game to try out the local fares. For all in the name of experience. Well, I am a foodie at heart. A foodie who mainly loves to eat =) Now I found Gujzina through the city guide booklet I picked up. The review says it’s a trendy new restaurant promoting traditional Slovenian flavours. The restaurant does not seem to be very popular with the tourists though, but it looks like it is amongst the locals, which is in fact the best way to gauge how good the food is. The locals know better. I must however admit that I do not only go to a restaurant because it offers good food. Ljubljana reminds me of Prague, and the more I think about it, the more I realise it is because of its medieval castle crowning the city. The inner courtyard of the Ljubljana Castle. You tend to usually get this kind of scenery in smaller cities and towns but not in a capital city. Now that I have brought this up, the following capitals that I have been to with a similar backdrop such as Ljubljana (Slovenia) are (1) Prague (Czech Republic) and (2) Edinburgh (Scotland – it is technically a country under a United Kingdom). I guess that is the word that best describes how I felt when I first set foot at the old centrum of Ljubljana on Preseren Square near the The Triple Bridge: MAGICAL This is the Preseren Square. The Triple Bridge. The old city is nestled at the foot of the Ljubljana Castle, it is quite compact and the core areas are concentrated along the Ljubljanica River that flows through the centre of town. The river embankments are an important aspect in the lifestyle department of the city. Outdoor restaurants and cafes adorn the river edges and locals love to gather here. There is a light-hearted alfresco living room ambiance, especially in the evenings when it gets really busy and lively here. Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings decorate the old centre as well which makes the city fascinating.
