I need a pint and a flame-grilled chicken + chicken livers dinner please at Nandos Sheffield

Queen Victoria was very keen on letting me have some English hospitality so she insisted that I taste the English specialty—‘Toad in the Hole’. So we searched for the restaurant she saw earlier on the net offering this, as well as the local Yorkshire traditionally brewed ales. Unfortunately we could not find the place and because we have tugged the whole family along, we decided to just settle for a pint drink instead in the pub around the corner.

For the curious geeks, click here to see what a Toad in the Hole looks like.

Our locally brewed pints. Cheers!

The lovely and sweet family of four. Little Marco always knows how to pose.

Once done with our pints we packed ourselves back into the car to go to the biggest mall in the city, Meadowhall. I’ve been here a few times. We are not going shopping but we are going to have dinner at their favourite restaurant—Nando’s.

Why is this restaurant their favourite? Nando’s is a Portuguese-Mozambican cuisine restaurant specializing in flame-grilled chicken barbecues and chicken livers which are incidentally both cooked similarly the Filipino-Visayan way.

The Philippines where I was born is a big country with a variety of regional cuisines. Although I am not quite fond of the northern Philippines cuisine which are loosely termed nowadays as the Filipino cuisine, I am still very much grounded with my Cebuano (or Visayan) cuisine roots. We are quite proud of our seafood, fresh salads and our flame-grilling technique.

Now, the way the chicken in Nando’s is grilled is very similar to the way we in Cebu (and the Visayas Region) do it. The secret is marinating the meat ahead of time, using spices and grilling on open fire. Portuguese have ‘piri piri’ and we have ‘sili’. We also use a lot of these chilipeppers in our sauces, yum! And as for the chicken liver? Well, what can I say, I thought it was the same back home! I could have another serving really.

At any rate, I enjoyed the food here a lot. So that’s 4.5 stars out of 5. Nando’s is a franchise restaurant from South Africa now all over the globe in 30 countries. Sadly, we do not have them here in the Netherlands.

It is a family restaurant where kids are given something to play or get busy with.

Queen Victoria saved me a tissue with one of Nando's slogan on it while I am so digging her sandals.

And now, here is the Nando’s challenge!

Nando’s will allow anyone to EAT FREE FOR LIFE if they can prove they have been to all the Nando's restaurants.

Nando's has locations in Australia, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Botswana, Canada, Cyprus, Fiji, India, Ireland, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, South Africa, Swaziland, Turkey, UAE, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe

Aha, do not challenge me Nando’s! Unfortunately they are nowhere in mainland Europe? See here the link to the challenge: Join the Hungry Traveller
