Best View in Kuala Lumpur at Sky Bar Traders Hotel

I’m not done yet with my Malacca travel diaries and I will come back to this later sometime because I want to move on to Kuala Lumpur, the shining capital of Malaysia.

Now for the rest of our Malaysian holiday, the family will be going on a road trip. We rented a car in Malacca and we will be going to Kuala Lumpur, to Batu Caves, the Cameron Highlands and then back to Malacca. It was my first time to drive a right-hand car on the right hand side of the road but I will expound more about this experience on a separate blog entry very soon.

My Sony point-and-click camera’s major weakness is shooting at night time. They do not always come out sharp.

We arrived in Kuala Lumpur late in the afternoon. It was very traffic when we entered the city but I reckon it was not as theatrical and curse-inducing as Manila. After checking in to our hotel and resting a bit, we were ready to go out and conquer KL. Our agenda for the evening: The Petronas Towers, and perhaps the same agenda as half of the tourists in the city, haha.

Due to my mom’s mobility challenge, travelling with her requires good planning and flexibility, so we mostly settle at one place and move very little, scavenging only nearby places to eat, as well as things to see and do. But before we set foot at the Petronas – KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) grounds, we will have drinks at the Sky Bar at Traders Hotel just across. They say this is the best sky bar in the city to have a majestic view of the Petronas Towers at night.

And I was not wrong. The view here at the Sky Bar on the 33rd floor of the Traders Hotel is grand! My point-and-click camera cannot do justice to the magnificent views here. The Sky Bar has been christened locally as the ‘Best View in KL’ and has won many awards such as the ‘Best in Hotel Bar’ and ‘Best Bar in Malaysia’ and so on and so forth.

Because the bar has become a very popular attraction in the city, you need some patience to get a table or a seat. Better yet, if you plan to dine in here and stay longer, reserving is the imperative verb because when we were there all the strategic dining and lounge areas facing the Petronas Towers were taken, already reserved in advance.

But we managed to get a seating and ordered drinks =)

In order to get to these lounge areas you need to do a balancing act walking on the thin pathway between the lounge areas (in red cushioned floor) and the swimming pool. A word of caution: Do not ever get drunk in here! Or bring friends who like to give pranks.

The Petronas is one of the beautiful buildings I have ever seen. She truly shines like a diamond in the night. She does have some similarity with the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. I call her the smaller sister =)

This is where we are going to next, to Suria KLCC grounds.

A summary review: I can’t put a finger to it, and I have been really thinking about my impression of the Sky Bar—It is a chic place but not really that chic? The crowd is a mix of young and old, lots of locals and lots of tourists but there is this somewhat ‘en masse feel’ to it. Maybe that’s it. Although I would not mind coming back here, perhaps during the day.

Now the parents are complaining that they are hungry so it’s time to trek over to the Petronas Towers/Suria KLCC and check out the restaurants. I’m not fond of eating in a mall but we are going to eat here for convenience’s sake.

Speaking of convenience, the Traders Hotel has a buggy service to Petronas Towers! We all could not contain our sighs of relief. The parents do not have to walk, especially the mother. Hallelujahs in order =)
