The Central Area of Bath: Pictures in the area around the Bath Abbey

Bath is a beautiful place and I truly enjoyed walking around the centre. The centre is small and very easy to walk around even without a map. If you are doing this as a side trip from London, you can quickly see and experience the highlights in 1 day.

First things first! Just to get our orientation going quickly, here is the map of Bath.

Bath Abbey is the core centre of the UNESCO world heritage city of Bath.

My studio apartment is located on Abbey Green in a historical building which is as central as you can ever get in the city. I literally look out the window at the tourists passing by =). I loved being able to walk around and then coming back to my studio to refresh a bit, have tea and then go out again. So I did a lot of walking and sightseeing on foot, which is really the best way to discover the beauty of Bath.

I took a gazillion of pictures as well, which isn’t really much of a surprise haha, so I am breaking them out by grouping and posting them according to different areas and streets of note in Bath.

So I am starting with the central part of Bath. Well, everyone and everything seems to gravitate to the Abbey and the Roman Baths so this central most part of Bath is always teeming with people!

Come and walk around with me =)

The oldest sweet shop in Bath. Great for kids.

The North Parade, where most of the bus tours wait.

The Parade Gardens are just on the right.

Sally Lunn’s Tea House introduced the first bun in the city, the Bath Bun. The eating house is also located in the oldest house of Bath.

You are looking straight ahead to my studio apartment on Abbey Green.

The King’s and Queen’s Baths on Stall Street. This is where you exit after you have visited the Roman Baths Museum.

A peek of Bath Abbey from Stall Street.

The Bath Abbey. I did not really go in though.

I checked out Marks & Spencer Food of course.

In the end I chose the salads over the pies but had to take a picture of this because although we get a lot of international variety of food in Amsterdam and Utrecht, pies are not really a Dutch thing.

Georgian Tearooms is located on the same building as my studio. I wanted to have cream tea or even just tea here but did not get the chance. I however had cream tea somewhere else.

Union Street is one of the main shopping streets in the central area.

On Stall Street which connects to Union Street.

This is Bath Street. At the end of the street on the left is the Thermae Bath Spa with a pool on top of the building. I am not into the spa thing though so I did not mind missing this at all.
