Delicious Crunchy Thai Snacks

Image
To all the pork snack lovers =)! Well I love beef, fish and all kinds of seafood snack but it just so happens that the Thai snacks we saw and bought were mostly pork. Rice cracker with pork floss and crispy pork sheet. If you want to say delicious in Thai, you say "Aroi mak mak". I think Thailand does not need any introduction when it comes to its cuisine. It is loved by many of us. In Bangkok, I went totally gaga on these aroi mak mak crunchy Thai snacks. They are sold in supermarkets and in many open and indoor market stalls all over the city. They usually go between 80-100 Baht per pack (normal size). The bigger ones go between 150-300 Baht depending on the snack. Spicy pork jerky and some crunchy fish sheet snack. Both are a hit! This is my carry on bag. I have more in my luggage =) Shredded pork with onion and Crispy pork sheet snack. Prelude to the Biggest Floating Market in Thailand

Image
Hello people! Sawadee krab/kha! I am in Thailand with my parents right now and we managed to visit Thailand's largest floating market. It is very touristy here and I am sure it has lost its authenticity, but still... the market is a great place to visit and experience. I took so many pictures so for now I am leaving you with just a few. I will be posting more pictures of the floating market at a later date. Khop khun krab/kha! The parents were struggling with the low seats of the long tail boat. Poor them. Loaded here with curious tourists. Live cooking in the boats. Amsterdam: Sinterklaas (S-snack) has arrived at Smullers

Image
It is Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas) season again in the Netherlands! Sinterklaas has arrived today in the Netherlands in Meppel , and Sinterklaas also has arrived since days ago at Smullers! Meet the S-snack which is a spin off from the a bit spicy fried mixed meat Mexicano. Great idea =) Dutch snack fastfood on the wall. We call this automaat. Just drop the coins, open the window and grab your (usually deep fried) snack. The S-snack goes for 1.50 euros. This Smullers branch is located at the Amsterdam Centraal Station. Sinterklaas is a yearly event in the Netherlands that starts on the 2nd Saturday of November and ends on the week of 5 December with the giving, receiving and exchanging of gifts. The main characters are Sinterklaas, his white horse and his merry mischievous Black Piets. For those who do not know about this tradition, just google Sinterklaas for more information. Shopping and Poffertjes in Amstelveen, Netherlands

Image
Last month (October) I was in Amstelveen visiting Blondine, afterwhich I dropped by at the shopping center to pick up a few items. I was craving for some stinky, creamy and spicy cheese and some dried fig cakebread. If there is anything, the Amstelveen shopping center ( Winkelcentrum Stadshart Amstelveen ), which is a network of modern complexes aka mall is perhaps the biggest indoor shopping experience the Netherlands has to offer. The Hoog Catharijne in Utrecht used to have the crown, which is by the way currently being renovated. But nowadays, the place to be for shopping is definitely Amstelveen. I came here however not to really shop like most women do. Shopping has some bad effect on me: It makes me tired and bored. I get impatient. I see it as a mindless activity which only brings disastrous repercussions to my bank account. But I have to honestly admit that it is a necessary evil sometimes. Sometimes. So I managed to buy some cheese and dried figs. And oh, a little por...

Amsterdam in the Fall (2015)

Image
Last month I had a meeting in the centre of Amsterdam with a company representing a popular brand and oh dear was I shocked when I entered their premises. From the outside you can see the usual and typical Amsterdam buildings on the canals. The entrance has a normal door, nothing special or unusual, but when it opened, I was shown into a totally different world. Inside was a mega work office space with a huge lobby, lots of work rooms, meeting rooms, people buzzing around like bees and a massive cafeteria is located on the ground floor which is also being used as an open cafe-style meeting area. Beside this is a luxurious garden that looks like an inner courtyard of a convent. I was like, wow. You would never expect this from the outside. It felt like I was inside a James Bond film where entering doors would mean transitioning into a new setting everytime. So Amsterdam surprised me again on this day. Unfortunately I couldn't show you what I have seen and experienced since ...

Carnaval Season Kick-Off in Cologne, Germany

Image
When it comes to carnaval in Germany, the biggest and most craziest place in the country is hands down Cologne. Today marks the kick-off of the carnaval season in Europe and oh boy did I went to the right place. You know I am really seriously working here... I was not able to take a lot of pictures because the crowds in Cologne were quite rowdy and boisterous. It was a bit difficult to capture the whole carnaval madness so these are the only few shots I managed to steal at the Cologne Hauptbahnhof. The costumes were just simply hilarious. I was surprised at the variety! And oh, the themes as well! Goodness heavens, ze Germans, haha. I really wished I had a day off just snapping pictures of everyone's out of this world outfits. But helaas, I had to work.
