Camaguey sights

After the displeasurable chill out experience on the plaza and our encounter with the latino intermediary for the 3 local Camaguey guys who pledged their love to me, we decided to go for a city stroll. We wanted to get away from the plaza and from the spotlight, and just be with ourselves, and check out other parts of Camaguey as well.

I have to admit that as a woman I like attention. I am not ugly and more than often I get a lot of attention from men. Well, I get a lot at home anyway, haha. But there are certain types of situations and certain types of attentions, especially from certain types of men that you would not want to be at the receiving end. Like what just happened.

Anyway, while walking, a blonde man approached us, obviously he is a visitor as well and cordially asked us where we were from. I thought, ‘Not again…’ haha but he was just really curious, nothing more. He recounted seeing the excitement about us at the hotel café on the plaza so he and his local friends (he pointed at them across the street) were just curious which country we came from. We said, ‘The Netherlands.’ With a big smile, he said, ‘Ik ook! Ik kom ook uit Nederland.’ As you can see the Dutch are everywhere.

It was showering again so we were not really able to venture that far. The shops have just closed as well. So we decided to go back to our hotel for some cocktails before dinner. Cuba is a cocktail country so we better make sure we take advantage of this.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. We got lucky because Medjugorje was on the way to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is our next stop. Half an hour into our driving, we reached Medjugorje. Parking was not easy to find, but we struck lucky and found a space not too far away from the Saint James Church. Medjugorje or Medugorje is a world-famous Catholic pilgrimage site due to the Our Lady of Medjugorje, who claimed to have seen a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, to 6 Bosnian children at  Križevac Hill .

Walking Discoveries and Map of Porto Centre

Porto is a lovely, old and rough-hewn city and I have very much enjoyed my visit here last March. The city centre is easily walkable which I adore. I am a great fan of walking. Walking is actually what I do best when travelling, I walk from one square to attraction to another, and it is no secret that I indulge in food, thus after sampling different types of local delicacies, it makes me feel good that those calories are going somewhere else other than to my (bulging) stomach and (flabby) arms. However, if you are mobility challenged, there are the old world trams and modern sightseeing buses to bring you around.
