Zakynthos, Greece: North Xigia Beach Sulphur Springs and Spa Collagen

Image
So, the title of this entry sums up everything but this Xigia Beach I think is more stunning than the other one. Just look at the view from above... Breathtaking isn't she? The milky substance is sulphur coming out of the rocks. As I have mentioned in my earlier post on South Xigia Beach Cove , there are 2 Xigia Beaches and the northern one is the famous Sulphur Beach that everyone wants to experience. This beach is located about 500 metres from the Xigia Tavern where we had our delicious lunch with accompanying spectacular views. This Sulphur Xigia Beach is a favourite of mine as well. I like it that its small, very cosy, gorgeous of course and not crowded. It’s got real character, as I always say about my favourite beaches. Nothing commercialised at all, there are no facilities, it is simply natural—just exactly how I like it to be. Between the crack of the rugged rock walls is the sulphur spring that produces milky white substance in the water. The sulphur sen...

Zakynthos, Greece: Fantastic Views at Xigia Tavern during Lunch

Image
Leaving South Xigia Beach , we hit the main road and just 500 metres away we saw this tavern with a spacious parking lot. We stopped to check it out. It turns out that the tavern is perched on the mountain sea cliff and looking out to the blue Ionian Sea. Fantastic views! I personally loved the thick trees giving shade to the diners, they bid a very cosy and romantic ambience, and oh, the birds happily chirping away from tree to tree. Well, what can I say? In this restaurant, you do not need man-made music to accompany the beautiful view. So I told the Dutchman—this is it. We are not going anywhere else for lunch =) When we came back from holiday I did some research on the restaurant and it turns out that its specialty is seafood and the owner is Italian who migrated to Zakynthos, Greece. This restaurant is very popular among the locals and the tourists as well. That is why it took us a LONG TIME to be seated. Guests came pouring in and we have to wait patiently in line. Dutc...

Zakynthos, Greece: South Xigia Beach

Image
Honestly I am not really sure if this is the name of this gorgeous beach cove but after some research I have come to the conclusion that there are 2 Xigia Beaches in Zakynthos Island. The famous one with the sulphur deposits located in the north, and this one, a small cove beach located in the south. They are not far from each other, perhaps less than a kilometre in between. If you are coming from Zakynthos, it’s the South Xigia beach that you will encounter first. Parking is a bit tricky, so make sure to park up near the main road because it will be a challenging task to go down and later go up to the main road. We saw a car who struggled to go back up the road. To get to the beach you would have to walk down a quite steep dirt hilly terrain and this will bring you to a cafeteria overlooking the beach. From here there is a paved stairway that leads down to the beach. Do take a pause (and take pictures) at the top of the stairs because the view is just lovely. Dutchman and I s...

Coolest bar in Zakynthos: Fresh Orange Juice snack bar on a cliff

Image
This must be the coolest bar in Zakynthos. I am not really sure if the name of this snack bar on a cliff is ‘Fresh Orange Juice’ bar but that’s all that I can remember and see on the sign. It surely has a very attractive location. Right on a roadside bend and on a cliff with fantastic views down to the Ionian Sea. The snack bar is actually a mini bus, or perhaps it was a small caravan? Anyhow, it is a cute and charming piece of thing! Very eye catching. Fresh Orange Juice bar can be found in Katastari on the main road going to Skinari Cape in the north eastern part of the island in the Alykes municipality. A few more fotos of the bus-caravan bar: Here are the beautiful views of course: Travel Period: August 2011 Destination: Zakynthos Island, Greece Keep in touch and follow me on Facebook: Travel & Lifestyle Diaries by Dutched Pinay Travels Happy Travels!
