Thank heavens! Spring has finally arrived in the Netherlands! So to celebrate this momentous event in the country, although this morning when I was in the eastern part of the country it rained and it was cold, Dutchman and I had a lovely gastronomic starred lunch at Het Koetshuis in Bennekom last weekend and then we had a romantic walk in the woods of Landgoed Hoekelum. Landgoed Hoekelum was not originally in the plan. Dutchman and I thought that since Restaurant Het Koetshuis is located in the Veluwe forest, there should be some walking trails nearby. We were mistaken with this assumption as we did not really see signs for walking trails, or perhaps we did not check the surrounding area thoroughly. In other words, we were back to the drawing board—where to walk? A quick online search (smartphones and internet are the greatest inventions!) showed a few walking trails nearby and we picked the nearest, about 5 kilometres from where we were. Every now and then I go out on a date with the Dutchman. We do not have children, which in principle means, we can go out anytime whenever we want to, like every weekend and even during the week. However, when you have lived together for more than 10 years and have known each other for almost 13 years, the frequency of going out naturally tapers off. Most of the times we just want to stay at home together. We both work full-time and when the weekend arrives, we just want to unload and do nothing. Moreover, eating out is not the Dutchman’s thing. It is more for moi, so as a compromise, we do this together sparingly, unless of course when we are on holiday. Nevertheless, I get to enjoy my own culinary quest anyway when I am out travelling alone or with friends. I was on the road today to Venlo, a city in the south of the Netherlands by the German border. On the A12 highway in Gelderland near Ede and Wageningen I saw lovely colours of autumn. This is only a small part of the beautiful autumn colours that I saw along the highway that I was able to snatch a foto. I was not quick enough to grab my camera that is in my bag.
