I forgot to blog about this. Massive onions the size of a cabbage!!! I initially thought they were plastic onion decorations so I touched it, haha. They were real of course. Yup only in Greece. They say (thus not 100% sure) it has something to do with the soil in Greece, especially in the Greek Islands where they are rich in volcanic minerals. Kalimera everyone! The Agios Sostis islet used to be connected to the main island of Zakynthos (Greece) until an earthquake separated them from each other. Nowadays, a wooden bridge connects the little island to Zakynthos. I never set foot on the island though. I have heard that it’s a nice place with beautiful caves but we only passed by and I had a quick souvenir foto shoot on the bridge. The Agios Sostis is located in the cove of Laganas Bay at the southernmost tip. It’s actually a much charming area than the main Laganas Beach. The fotos of course... The islet is located beside this little harbour. This is actually a candid shot. It was already past 3PM and Dutchman and I haven’t had lunch yet. We are tremendously enjoying this unknown rock beach here in Zakynthos Island (Greece) that we totally forgot the time. Which, in my opinion, is what a holiday should be. Forgetting time. Harbour Tavern Octopus Lunch But then our stomachs were grumbling. We decided that the terrace by the little clearing where we parked the scooter is not going to be it so we climbed on our ride to search for a nice restaurant. We drove down to Laganas Bay and came upon Agios Sostis, the southernmost part of the bay. The place has more charm than the main Laganas Beach several hundred metres away. Dutchman was not really enthusiastic after seeing the commercialised beach. He wants to dine in a special place, but on the corner of my eye I saw some taverns on stilts on the beach. Dutchman and I found this secluded rock beach in Laganas, Zakynthos Island (Greece) by chance. We came from the mountain village of Keri and had drinks at the Keri Lighthouse enjoying the gorgeous views down to the Mizithres Rocks . For our next item in our agenda would be a nice beach to swim in and stay put for a couple of hours before we take our late afternoon lunch. We have been driving from one beach to another in Laganas area and we could not really find the beach we are looking for. We almost gave up hope and the not-so-exciting looming thoughts of going to Laganas Beach was dangling at the back of our minds. With the map in my hand, we followed a route to Porto Koukla. ‘Koukla’ in Greek means beautiful, a word I learned when I was in Athens with a friend who is almost Greek several years back. Or otherwise known as Keri Lake (beach). This was an OK beach but it was not what we were looking for. We stopped here for a while to swim but we didn’t like the area. It may be less commercialised than Laganas and Banana Beach but it still is a big public open area beach. The place was not gezellig enough. There is just not much charm here. So we didn’t stay long and off we went with our scooter searching for a much nicer beach. Dutchman and I checked out the Keri (Kerion) area. The place is located about 20 kilometres from Zakynthos capital centre. Gorgeous view to Mizithres Rocks. We somehow knew that the area is popular for something but we couldn’t figure it out at that time. I know that during the Island Cruise Tour we passed by this part of the island and remember seeing a massive Greek flag flying above the cliffs. I also remember the guide saying that this is the world’s largest Greek flag. And I remember the beautiful stone islets called Mizithres Rocks as well. Now the map that I have does mention Keri home to the gorgeous Mizithres Rocks but we have no idea how to get there. While driving in the area, we came to a mountain village, I believe this was after the main Keri village, which looked rather desolate. There were houses but no one is tinkering on the streets.
