Mozart Dinner Concert at the Baroque Hall of St. Peter’s Stiftskeller in Salzburg

Image
One of the highlights during my quick visit to the lovely city of Salzburg last May was a Mozart Dinner Concert. I understand that this is the pinnacle of all things touristy in the city but how many times do I really get to be in Salzburg and enjoy a Mozart inspired classical concert in a candlelit fine dining setting? The city screams Mozart; everywhere I turn to, I hear and see Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart being played and displayed. Thus I bought my ticket to the Mozart Dinner Concert. You can buy them online and at the ticket centers in the city, there are a few on Getreidegasse. There are as well several classical dinner concerts happening in the city, so when you buy do check the name of the concert and its location. I went to the most popular and elegant dinner concert in town... ‘The Mozart Dinner Concert at the Baroque Hall of St. Peter’s Stiftskeller - Das Restaurant’ As they say, if you cannot beat them, join them =) The entrance to the restaurant. Café Bazar and the other Salzburg across the River Salzach

Image
What is there to see across the Salzach River from Salzburg Altstadt? Well firstly, there’s the traditional Austrian kaffeehaus Cafe Bazar, a lovely old world charm cafe set along the river with views to the old town centre. Café Bazar Website: Cafe Bazar I love pretty cafes and this one just came along the right time. The cafe is an upscale joint with an elegant and classical interior steeped in history. Located in the same building as the Hotel Gasthof Brandstätter, the place is said to be where writers have always met for inspiration, through the years. I also found out that the founder is the brother of the founder of the oldest traditional kaffeehaus in Salzburg, the Tomaselli Cafe at the Altermarkt in the old town centre, where I had my Tomasellium’s Kaffee with Mozart liquor. See pictures and read my blog entry here: Coffee Time at Cafe Tomaselli  An excerpt from the website: ‘From its very first days the Café Bazar has been a meeting point for artists, po...

Mirabell Palace & Gardens in Salzburg: Remembering ‘Sound of Music’ and an Illicit Medieval Love Affair

When I was a little girl in the 1970’s, the popular children’s films which are also musicals were ‘Wizard of Oz’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Sound of Music’, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and then in the 1980’s we had ‘Annie’, ‘Oliver Twist’, ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’. I really enjoyed them a lot. I have watched a few of them in the movie houses, on our Betamax which eventually evolved into VHS, as well as on TV which the networks tend to air during the Christmas season. December really reminds me of these classic children’s films, but they also say that the older you become, the more you remember your childhood. Mirabell Palace and Gardens Website: Mirabell Palace and Gardens Following the spirit of the Christmas season, I am posting another nostalgia, a trip back in time, to a place that has been popularised by one of the films/musicals above, that will for sure bring back many memories of our past childhood days. Last May I was in Salzburg, Austria a...
