Yongsan, Seoul: Cool street market in Itaewon

Itaewon is dubbed by the locals as the expat ghetto in Seoul. It is the suburb where east meets west. Some people say that because of the place being trendy and western influenced, it is so un-Seoul. In fact, I quite like it because of this reason.


Here you can find many artsy and hip stores, as well as vintage shops. Because many foreigners live nearby, English is spoken here than anywhere else in Seoul.

While Dutchman and I were discovering the back streets of Itaewon, we came across this street with a market happening. When I first saw it, I had the déjà vu feeling. It’s like I am in a familiar market street somewhere in Europe but manned by K-Pop celebrity lookalikes.

I forgot the name of the street but this is one of the back streets parallel to the main Itaewon Street. Vendors here are selling vintage clothes, accessories, toys and even gourmet food... and they are friendly and camera loving vendors as well!

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. We got lucky because Medjugorje was on the way to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is our next stop. Half an hour into our driving, we reached Medjugorje. Parking was not easy to find, but we struck lucky and found a space not too far away from the Saint James Church. Walking Discoveries and Map of Porto Centre

Porto is a lovely, old and rough-hewn city and I have very much enjoyed my visit here last March. The city centre is easily walkable which I adore. I am a great fan of walking. Walking is actually what I do best when travelling, I walk from one square to attraction to another, and it is no secret that I indulge in food, thus after sampling different types of local delicacies, it makes me feel good that those calories are going somewhere else other than to my (bulging) stomach and (flabby) arms. However, if you are mobility challenged, there are the old world trams and modern sightseeing buses to bring you around.
