Street Performances in Munich: Reggae and a Piano, a Classical Duo and the Crazy Band
When I was in Munich (Munchen as it is locally called) last month, I told myself — Why have I only come to Munich now? Because the city is beautiful, it is buzzing and has so much to offer. It is the perfect example of the old and new juxtaposition. Munich has an old soul but with a young heart.
One of the things that I saw in Munich that somehow floored me a bit were the street musicians. Do you even pay attention to them if I may ask? I do when they are exceptional, when they can entertain or have real talent.
Reggae ‘Lazy Song’ and the Piano on Max-Joseph-Platz
Here is the short video I took of one of their songs. I really enjoyed listening and watching them. They all seem to be having fun. Music and friends, the simple joys of life.
Rendition of the Lazy Song (originally Bruno Mars song).
I think they are students, not really street performers, they just perhaps like to spend a day entertaining themselves and everyone else who wants to be entertained. This is actually what I first saw and heard when I stepped into the city.
Tip: There is parking underneath the Max-Joseph Square so if coming with a car this is a good place, quite central, to park.
Classical music ‘Richard Wagner’ style
While walking around town, I was drawn to the sound of classical music humming from somewhere. I followed the music and it led me to a shopping hallway.
I do not know this piece. I need to seriously get into this classical music thing. I know that classical music is not for everyone but I am starting to really like them. Maybe its the age. Hmm, I guess it gets better when you are middle aged, you learn to appreciate the finer things in life =).
These guys were quite good. I’ve seen them a couple of times on different nights in different places in Munich. They usually move from one place to another, maybe trying their luck on a certain area or street.
Trivia: There was this street performer here in Utrecht, The Netherlands always stationing himself along the narrow hallway that connects the bus station to Utrecht Centraal Station. I have seen him before as well. He basically just sits there and play unintelligible music. When he died (5-8 years ago?) people found out that he lived in a big house and had so much money hidden between his newspaper collection. Who would have thought?
So that people, you never know if these musicians you meet on the streets are closet rich =)
The Crazy Band
And this has got to be the most fun and crazy band roaming around Munich. They can really gather a sizable crowd with their upbeat music.
I managed to take 4 videos but I am posting 2 videos only, with a more familiar music that they played:
Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman =)
Their rendition of Don't Stop Me Now from the famous British band, Queen.
Here are the cast of characters in the band. Have a look at their outfits. They are all quirky, mind you!
The audience joined in as well. All fun =)
I think they are students and I wonder if they even have a (band) name?
