A walk through the tunnel of Dubai Aquarium

The Dubai Aquarium
Website: The Dubai Aquarium

While in Dubai last July I managed to get in touch with an old colleague and I’d like to call her Miss Luster. We worked together in Makati City (Manila), Philippines more than a decade ago for a software consulting firm where I was the Senior Account Manager and she was the PA. Colleagues in the office, and even my clients call me MissJ___. The ‘Miss’ term brings back so many happy, fulfilling, challenging, hilarious and exciting memories in Manila. We all move on with our lives eventually, and so I have left the country for the Netherlands in the summer of 2002, while she stayed but several years later she landed a job in Dubai. It is great to see someone who was once a part of those memories and experiences, and to talk about them like it was just yesterday.

A little nugget of wisdom I would like to share: A simple hi to keep in touch can do so much to us.

So we have decided to meet at the Dubai Mall because I wanted to see the Burj Khalifa and the dancing fountains. Since I have no idea of the layout of Dubai Mall, I suggested we will see each other at the entrance of the Dubai Aquarium. I gather it is huge so I should not miss it, and if I do, people I am sure can easily point me where to find it.

And here we are! It has been 11 years since we last saw each other, rather, worked together in Manila. And since we are already here at the Dubai Aquarium, she treated me out to a little walk through the tunnel of the aquarium. Great plan =)

Very impressive.

Must take a pose in the aquarium.

Here is a quick video I took:

How would you like to have a hotel room with this view? Have you ever stayed in a hotel room underwater? BBC recently published an article online about underwater hotels becoming the new trend: Underwater hotel rooms: Is down becoming the new up?

The ultimate underwater hotel though is located in Fiji, go here: Poseiden Undersea Resort (click the experience and check out the pictures). Amazing!

At Dubai Aquarium you can swim with the sharks and stingrays, together with a professional scuba diving guide of course.

Below you will see two visitors together with a guide, who much later I realised was a Filipino. The guide showed us the back of his fins which I thought was a bit strange. I could not read the print at the back of his fins properly but I managed to take a picture. When we left and had the chance to check out the pictures and zoomed in on the particular photo, it was then when I saw what it was. It says: FILIPINO, cool haha. His own way of saying hello.

Living abroad creates (growing) feelings of nationalism sometimes (although I have seen otherwise but this is another story altogether), which can be good to our souls. If you are to ask me personally, I see myself more as an international citizen, but we all need to know where we came from and who we were or are... and be reminded about it from time to time as well.

The diver guide showing the FILIPINO print at the back of his fins =). I guess its his own way of saying hello to us.

Thank you Miss Luster for showing me this.
