Café Bazar and the other Salzburg across the River Salzach
What is there to see across the Salzach River from Salzburg Altstadt?
Well firstly, there’s the traditional Austrian kaffeehaus Cafe Bazar, a lovely old world charm cafe set along the river with views to the old town centre.

I love pretty cafes and this one just came along the right time. The cafe is an upscale joint with an elegant and classical interior steeped in history. Located in the same building as the Hotel Gasthof Brandstätter, the place is said to be where writers have always met for inspiration, through the years.
I also found out that the founder is the brother of the founder of the oldest traditional kaffeehaus in Salzburg, the Tomaselli Cafe at the Altermarkt in the old town centre, where I had my Tomasellium’s Kaffee with Mozart liquor. Hmm, Cafe Bazar looks like a place to be seen =)
So, what else is there to see across the River Salzach?
Well, from across the river and the bridges lovely views to the Salzburg Altstadt can be seen. Salzburg is a very picturesque city especially when the sun shines. Unfortunately it was a bit grey and it showered when I was there, but the city still stayed true to her loveliness, rain or shine.

An excerpt from the website:
‘From its very first days the Café Bazar has been a meeting point for artists, poets and thinkers. When Marlene Dietrich took her seat on the patio of the Café Bazar in 1936, all of Salzburg gathered to catch a glimpse of the chic blonde. Max Reinhardt, legendary founder of the Salzburg Festival and owner of Castle Leoploldskron, felt equally at home at the Café Bazar as did his friend Hugo von Hoffmannsthal. Today the celebrities of the Salzburg Festival enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Café Bazar: such as Tobias Moretti; Iris Berben; Nina Hoss; Gabriel Barylli; and Peter Simonischek, the famous actor of “Everyman“.’

Instead of a cup of coffee, I ordered a glass of red port. This beautiful and historical cafe is a must place to visit for the cafe enthusiast.
The terrace is a lovely sight, a very busy place during summer, not when I was there though.
