Shopping and Dinner (Tong Tai Seafood) at Temple Street Night Market, Hong Kong
This is one heck of a very busy place! Elbow to elbow, butt to butt. Literally. My mother had to seek shelter along the side alleyways in order to breathe because the main street of the market in the middle is crammed with bodies. Bodies everywhere, the stinky kind and the happily scented ones.
Like I always tell everyone visiting packed places like these: Beware of pickpockets. We fastened our purses more closer to our bodies.
My mother and I love markets. There is something about an outdoor market that grabs me. It stirs my senses, igniting emotions of desires, setting my thought process into waves of curiosity and leading to actions such as capturing items, activities, people and moments with my point-and-click camera.
There is however a high chance that I will not buy anything. That I may just be browsing, clicking away and enjoying the colours, sounds and hustle around me.
My mother on the other hand though would love to always buy something in a market. She would feel a little bit left out or let down if she came and went away with nothing. I also realised that many women are like this. Women tend to buy something, even without plans, whenever they pass by a store or a market, and oftentimes as well have feelings of obligation to buy, especially when they were entertained nicely and patiently by an amiable sales person. The perfect customer.
Are you one of these perfect female customers?
Al Fresco Dining: Tong Tai Seafood Restaurant
Here at Temple Street Night Market we also had one of our dinners. When we saw roadside restaurants decorating Temple Street with makeshift plastic tables and chairs we became lazy to go somewhere else for dinner. Might as well eat here after the shopping activity, then we can go straight to the hotel and retire for the evening. When you had a long day, all you’d want to do after eating is nothing.
In the end we decided to order steamed brocolli and fried noodles, yang chow fried rice and another type of Chinese rice.
We are not big eaters and we know it is very tempting to order several dishes and later on be sorry for having eaten a lot (sounds like me, lol), so each one orders his/her own meal of choice, and then we shared it together.
And because Temple Street is relatively close to our hotel in Kowloon, Royal Plaza Hotel, many cab drivers didn’t want to take us. It was getting late into the night and my parents being tired and all were becoming desperate, and angry as well. What is this a conspiracy? This is when an older looking cabbie pulled up and gave us a ride. We tipped him generously which he didn’t take. Tipping in Hong Kong is not really a norm. You have been informed.
My mom is a god-believer, a christian, and she said that the heavens sent an angel in the form of this cab driver to rescue us. Well, if you say so =)

Supposed to be funny signboards: No Fart in Car and No Fart Inside the Room (hah!) -- You strong like Rambo look like Hero but your brain just like Potato (lol) -- Don't be Cheating I'll elbow your Lung without notice (huh).
Everything imaginable is sold here, even the unimaginable.
Chinese Feng Shui lucky charms. Luck sells.
You can buy tea and drink it in a little bowl whilst standing or buy it take away in bottles.

This roadside restaurant is quite popular here and is very easy to spot.
Peking roasted duck express order.
Not sure what to order... but one thing we know, we should not eat too much.
There is so much choice!
