A Peek into Çiçek Pasajı (Flower Passage) in Beyoglu, Istanbul
This is a beautiful historical indoor passage of pubs and restaurants in Beyoglu, Istanbul. The main entrance is located on Istiklal Avenue and another entrance is on Sahne Sokak.
Originally a theatre and converted into a covered arcade of cafes, restaurants and winehouses called Cité de Pera in the 19th century. The building went through several owners and between the 1920’s and 1940’s the passage were mostly occupied by flower shops, hence its current appellation—Cicek Pasaji or Flower Passage.
Restored in 1988 the gallery reopened back to what it once was—an arcade of cafes and restaurants.
I have wanted to eat here but helaas I never made the promise. When I am travelling I tend to be always full because I am non-stop tasting local new stuff here and there. Let’s just say I have a big appetite with a small stomach. Luckily though I have learned the art and skill of consuming food by mere visual appreciation. It is satisfying to me, at least.
My hotel is just around the corner so I pass by this passage every single day.

As you can see engraved on the entablature on top of the main entrance is its original name of the building -- Cite de Pera. Beyoglu's old name during the Middle Ages up to the early 20th century before the establishment of the Turkish Republic.
During the morning and just after lunch, this place is visited by tourists and lots of selfies and group picture taking action takes place here =)
The glass dome vaulted ceiling of the historical passage. The windows are decorated with famous personalities during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

This is the passage in the evening. Very busy! Not just with tourists but with lots of locals.
