Kefalonia (Greece): Soutzoukakia, Grilled Seabass, Beef Stifado at Restaurant Adonis in Sami

Dutchman and I have been in Sami twice, although we have passed by the area a few times along the way. So we had dinner here twice as well and the first dinner we had at this town was at Restaurant Adonis located on the harbour of Sami.

The harbour of Sami is lined with Greek tavernas offering local cuisine as well as café terraces. This area of town is the centre and it becomes lively after 18:00. It was a bit difficult of a task at first to pick a restaurant because they all looked inviting. However, I always prefer to sit beside the water, so that I am not staring at someone’s face and back. Seeing that Restaurant Adonis has a few tables available directly beside the boulevard that is facing the water, we decided to go for it. Compared to the other tavernas, their dishes were also priced reasonably so that was a plus point.

We had a little starter of Greek meatballs in tomato sauce called Soutzoukakia. Dutchman’s main is Greek Beef Stifado stewed in onions. For me I had a Grilled Seabass which was so succulent and good. Followed by coffee and a little plate of red watermelon from the house. A lovely down-to-earth Greek dinner.

This area of Kefalonia is also very windy, however I had my shawl with me to drape around my shoulders so it wasn’t really much of an issue. The wind became a bit strong though halfway through the dinner. Luckily this was after the sun had set down the horizon. They had to lower down the plastic shades of the tent to protect the wind from blowing through.

You know, it is always nice to eat with a view of the water, or eat on the water, beside the water… there is just a magical spell about eating near a body of water, don’t you think? Throw in there the sun setting down as the ultimate view whilst dining, then it is perfect. This is what we always look for during our summer holidays in Greece.

A table just beside the water. There is a separate harbour in town for boats but they can also dock along the town's harbour boulevard.

Our starters to share: Soutzoukakia are Greek meatballs cooked in tomato sauce.

Dinner has finally arrived!

This is Greek Beef Stifado. Dutchman loves this.

Huge grilled seabass for moi.

Espresso for moi, a cappuccino for the Dutchman and a little plate of watermelon from the house.

Before it got so windy on the harbour.

The couple is exactly sitting at the same table we had dinner. This picture of the restaurant was taken earlier during the day from across the harbour, in the main designated yacht harbour.
