Taipei: Evening Skyscrapers in Xinyi District and Tim Ho Wan
So I was famished after my lovely and enriching Tea Ceremony at Shi Yang Cultural Restaurant and now I am looking for a quick late lunch eat.
My plan for the rest of the afternoon was to grab a quick eat and then go around the streets of Xinyi district. Xinyi is the financial centre of Taipei where you will see the tall modern buildings. I knew that in a matter of 2 hours it will become dark and the cityscape will change. I wanted to see the city lights of Taipei’s skyscraper district.
Although I have a soft spot for nature, the outdoors and the countryside, I will always remain a city girl at heart.
In fact, I quite missed the skyscrapers of Metro Manila. I used to work in Makati, the financial district of the country for almost 10 years. The most number of skyscrapers in the country was located in Makati City. My view as well from my small condominium unit in Greenhills was the Ortigas City skyline, the second most populous with skyscrapers municipality. We do not have a lot of these modern skyscrapers in Europe, so it is always a refreshing experience for me to see them every time.
But before anything else, I needed a quick bite.
At the Taipei 101 / World Trade Center Station, which is, by the way, a huge area with interconnected shopping malls and pedestrian underpasses, I found the famous dim sum fast food chain from Hong Kong, Tim Ho Wan. I love Asian food. I miss these kinds of Asian fast food chains here in the Netherlands. We simply do not have one here.
So I took a seat and ordered a favourite – Char Siew dry noodles with spicy prawns and veggies. I can eat this for days. I also ordered an interesting pastry, sesame seed balls called Jandui or Buchi with custard filling. This was delicious but 3 was too much. 1 or 2 would have been just perfect.
After devouring my very late lunch, I walked around the underground station, checking out the many shops, the food courts and everything else. I was just curious. Then afterwards, I went outside and found out that it has started to become dark.
A stroll around the famous Taipei 101 building was arranged. It was lovely to see the lights and the modern skyscrapers. I truly have missed this. Then I had coffee at Starbucks and from where I was seated I could see a very busy intersection. Great corner to people watch.
After I had my fill, I decided to take the metro back to my hotel in Ximending. I need some time to rest and freshen up a bit before checking out one of the famous night markets of the city. I’ll have my walking late dinner there.
