Mosel, Germany: Gorgeous Cochem Panorama Skyline

The Mosel/Moselle Valley is one of the most beautiful places in Germany and in Western Europe. The evidence is this lovely village called Cochem.

Dutchman and I were here last year in the fall (September) for a long weekend holiday. It was not my first time to in Cochem and in the Mosel Valley but it was for the Dutchman who was quite smitten about the place, mainly because it proved to be a great backdrop for a hiking activity through the terraced vineyards.

I can perfectly understand because I too had the same reaction when I visited 12 years ago. Yup, it's been a long time ago!

So we stayed in a B&B in Bullay which is approximately half an hour drive from Cochem. It was our first day in the valley and our plan was to visit Cochem in the late afternoon and then have dinner there.

Cochem's crown is its medieval castle. It is the symbol of the village and is often referred to as Burg Cochem, although its official name is Reichsburg Cochem. What makes this castle really dramatic is its location, perched on top of a hill, on the scenic Moselle River Valley and surrounded by terraced vineyards.

I personally wanted to go up the Cochem castle but knowing the Dutchman I didn't even bother putting the suggestion forward. In relationships, we always have to strike a compromise. I know when I can drag him to a historical building or ruin. I know his limits, although most of the times I push it, haha.

TIP: There is a cafe with a terrace at the top of the castle.

So my agenda for our visit to Cochem was some strolling activity along the river whilst enjoying and appreciating Cochem's pretty and idyllic skyline. I know the Dutchman would welcome this for sure since its a combination of a little hike hence being active (men!) and sightseeing nature and architecture. Although I have to keep up with the pace.

That said, I do not have any further stories to share as these pictures are all panoramic snapshots we both took of the village from across the river.

The Cochem Castle aka Burg Cochem | Reichsburg Cochem.

There are a number of Moselle River boat cruises passing and docking in Cochem.

On the waterfront boulevard are beautiful buildings in bright colours. Many of them have converted the front part of the building into hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops.

This is a nice terrace across the village. A terrace with the perfect view.
