Kia Ora! Auckland Postcards

My visit to New Zealand was fantabulous!

Auckland city center in the Harbour area.

I only had 10 days for this visit which means I was only able to see a few places and I need to come back =)

Auckland, by the way, is NOT the capital of New Zealand. I heard it was before, but then the government elected to move it to Wellington. Auckland, however, is the most populated city and is the economic hub of the country. That said, this is where my sister lives.

So these are just a few pictures to start off the Auckland stories...

A busy crossing in Auckland. I think this is the busiest it can get in Auckland. Auckland is relatively a small city and it has this small city feel to it. This is not the place if you want to hide away from family and friends for a night out with someone else =)

There are many Owl Sculptures street art installations in the city painted in different themes and styles by participating artists. It is being sponsored by Singapore Airlines.

This is the Downtown Ferry Terminal in Auckland with the beautiful Ferry Building. Inside the building, you can find stores, cafes, and restaurants.

A nice place to hang out in the city center is the Viaduct Harbour where there are lots of outdoor cafes, pubs, and restaurants on the quay It gives me a feeling that I am in Spain, France, and Greece during the summer months.

Auckland City from the observation deck of the Auckland Sky Tower.

This is the Aotea Square that can fit a 20,000 gathering. On the right are the Auckland City Hall and the Waharoa to the left, which is a traditional version of a Maori gate entrance.

SisterJ and Myrhh on our first night's dinner at Ostro in the city. If you notice, we have just finished dinner here =)

I met up with a friend, which I am gonna call Hen. We had lunch at this winery near Auckland city. Fish and Chips are huge in New Zealand, it is almost on every restaurant's menu.

I also managed to visit a blueberry farm and partly picked these blueberries! Quite timely as we were leaving for a road trip the next day. We took this with us in our campervan that has a fridge!

Visited as well a farm near Auckland. This is just a teaser to all the breathtaking nature New Zealand has offered me in this holiday. Must come back!

Auckland City Skyline from Devonport, just across the Auckland-Gulf Harbour.

I did not want to leave Auckland without having tried their oysters!!! The meat is huge, fresh and juicy delicious. Much bigger than the ones in Holland. And cheaper of course.

Auckland has a quite advanced eating out and gourmet scene. Presentation of dishes in the restaurant are quite impressive and it does not really cost an arm and a leg to dine out.

Last night in Auckland is spent of course with this view of the Viaduct Harbour.

More soon of Auckland! I promise =)
