A spring walk in the woods of Landgoed Hoekelum
Thank heavens! Spring has finally arrived in the Netherlands!
So to celebrate this momentous event in the country, although this morning when I was in the eastern part of the country it rained and it was cold, Dutchman and I had a lovely gastronomic starred lunch at Het Koetshuis in Bennekom last weekend and then we had a romantic walk in the woods of Landgoed Hoekelum.
Landgoed Hoekelum was not originally in the plan. Dutchman and I thought that since Restaurant Het Koetshuis is located in the Veluwe forest, there should be some walking trails nearby. We were mistaken with this assumption as we did not really see signs for walking trails, or perhaps we did not check the surrounding area thoroughly. In other words, we were back to the drawing board—where to walk?
A quick online search (smartphones and internet are the greatest inventions!) showed a few walking trails nearby and we picked the nearest, about 5 kilometres from where we were.

Hoekelum Estate
The most beautiful sight at the Hoekelum estate is the ‘Hoekelum Castle’ that can be rented out for events such as business meetings and weddings.
And speaking of weddings, we caught sight of a very much in love pair having a romantic wedding photo shoot.
Walk in the woods...
The estate has a 5 kilometre walking trail in the woods. The terrain is not that flat, there were areas that you have to climb uphill, which is not really a lot, however, in flat Netherlands, anything that is a 10-degree angle climb is already a lot.
Hoekelum farmhouse and store
Inside the Hoekelum estate is a ‘Hoekelum Farmhouse’ that sells its own products from the land in their little organic store that seems to be watched over by the grumpy grey-black dog. They have a cheese-making facility and even offer camping accommodations.
I was quite tempted to buy something at the store but could not find anything that I really want. Anyhow, I am trying to lessen my food intake as summer is fast approaching.
So that wraps up our walk around the Hoekelum estate and the surrounding woods.
It was a lovely date on a lovely finally spring day =)
