Holiday Nostalgia
I had those one of those days attacks today: nostalgia and this time it’s over Greece and the Philippines.
I daydreamt sitting in the car with the Dutchman holding a map and wandering around in the little charmant villages. It didn’t that we got lost (we actually did, a couple of times), or sitting idly by the Malia coastline under the warm sun reading a book or just watching people go by, or walking in the busy streets of Makati, enveloped in the hustle and bustle of the city not minding that the air is actually not fit for breathing, or driving in the roads of Cebu City and everywhere I turn to, I get lost because so much has changed.
I wish someone waves a magic wand and transplant me from the couch where I am sitting to the picture above. SIGH. Are you there genie in the bottle?
I don’t know but I have this nagging feeling today to just get away from the routine Dutch life.
Maybe it’s time to go on a vacation....
Thing is, we still do not know which country to vacation to this summer. I am thinking of Brazil, yeah Rio de Janeiro... and earlier, the Dutchman told me that he wanted to go to Japan. But, I don’t have my Dutch passport yet, I can only ask for it in August and we do not know how fast the visa application takes.
Argh, I hate going through the visa red tape with these embassies. It’s just so much freaking hassle, costs a lot of my bloody time, money too. So perhaps we will just have to look within the EU for our summer vacation destination.
OK, I just ranted.
Jorz, if there's only a genie in a bottle/lamp, I'll surely ask him to stabilize the weather here in NL!!! Very warm and sunny one day and the next day is very cold and windy...real sea weather!!!! or worse it only takes a few minutes and then the sudden change. All of us in the family have cough and colds. I wished to be transported to Cebu too! Can't wait for the summer vacation. Schatzli actually gave me the idea. Maybe I'll walk along the beach with only my two piece: sunglasses and slippers! LOL

Wow, you go on holiday a lot! I wish I were going on holiday this year... But my mum says I can't complain because I'm going to live in France... Well, living is not the same as holiday!! But then in December I'll come to NL... for a holiday!! Haha, that really is something...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, enjoy making your holiday plans, I always love doing that! I think this year I'll do a day of Achen, and maybe a day of Antwerp, just shopping, sight-seeing you know... :)!
i tend to day-dream at the worst time possible: during meetings where i might be called on about status of this or that; while taking public transportation when i should be paying attention to my upcoming destinations; or before the arrival of the waitperson instead of making my selections.

i love to hear about your holidays .. how about some of the challenges of a holiday? i mean, i remember almost missing my plane several times due to poor planning and the food poison (didn't last the whole trip, but i came back not liking sushi for a long time). i think the worst, yet paradoxically the best, part of a vacation is both the planning and all the comical mishaps of a vacation!
Sha, I have never done the G string, not YET haha! True, if we can escape for a short while, it will recharge us and we become productive. you are now really a very european gal when it comes to work and holiday! dutchman has been in mykonos before with this ex but that would be one of our stops soon. the balearic islands are also good. still thinking...

But I like your idea of a 2 piece, just sunglasses and slippers, haha! yeah, i love tanning a bit, i like the goldish effect, not too much though, just enough.
Elja, Our wish (Dutchman and I) is to win the lotto and travel and sit on our butts in the beaches, terraces watching people and sipping on a drink, and the rest just doing nothing, hehe. Your stay in Paris I am sure will be great. You must be thrilled now! Have you been to the waddeneilanden? Its a popular place to go during summer.
Nam, Its sweet to daydream, not many people are good in it, so we must revel on the opportunity! hehe. It's funny how everyone seems to stop by the word Paris when thinking of France... For the record, I'll be staying in Caen, a place somewhat to the west of the notorious city previously mentioned, by the sea in Normandy. And yeah, I'm really excited!

WTF?!? you've only been blogging since last august? what do you do .. now i'm pretty sure your blog is written by a human and not some algorithm, as the entries are rich in detail and creative in spirit. no script can voice such an experience.

Elja, Haha, sorry! I know such a rookie mistake, France = Paris. Its like Holland = Amsterdam, lol. It's CAEN! Haven't been to the islands up north, but its one of the place I will drag Dutchman to. He is currently planning when to take me to Efteling. Yipee!

Amy, Dutchman hates traveling in mainland Europe except if we go to the beach down south. He especially has had "enough" of France and even St. Tropez because when he was young their whole family go there often. That's why now, he is on rebellion haha. Though, I have succeeded in committing him to go to Berlin for a short weekend (maybe next month or June). Basta, I will visit your Monaco and Nice!!! And you owe me coffee :-)
ReplyDeletei have a humble blogging beginning: started to blog in february 2005 as a way to curb my anxiety over the internet/technology war. living in silicon valley, it's easy to think that technology is the solution to everything. it's not. though i'm no geek, i was fortunate enough to have sat next to the grand web mistress of one of my multitude of companies years ago.
ReplyDeletemy curiousity, and professional obligation, of what she was doing snared me into her web work; she was asked to report to me, so i had to have some clue as to how she spent her days. after work each day for a period of three months, she would distill her wisdom and part her strict philosophy of good html coding to me. the web yielded its secrets under her teachings, but i did not create my first 'real' site until years later with my >walkabout travelogue. lordy, had i known about blogging, life would have been so much simpler!
i enjoy blogging .. until the winds of change catch me for a different adventure. recently, one of the blog aggratators asked me to contribute on a regular basis; i had to turn it down as that is more commitment than i can take up. some of my reporter friends are entertained at my mis-information. i am amused over the innocence of some visitors to my blog .. i'm sure you know what i mean.
Nam, Wow you just started recently? What did you do in the past? And now you're into camp counseling? I hear so many stories and what have you about being paid to blog. How does this sum up? I would like to know! Haha. Yeah the mis-information is fun, you got to be clever to know that. Your travelogue was cool but after I clicked it the 3rd time, it said "not available". Hmm..

without going into too much details (i gota have some privacy, after all!), yeah i got into the whole blogging thing to get away from another addiction (i already told you about playing video games). as a news junkie, i often communicate my opinions to the local news media; i used to work with alot of reporters, so i know how to catch their attention.
ReplyDeleteno, i'm not a camp counselor atm (at the moment). but it would be fun to do that for the summer .. i'll have to check into the local youth programs.
i absolutely abhor the notion of paid reporters to blog for politicians. i object to reporters not disclosing their employment with any organization.
there is no such thing as pure objective reporting; not the holy bible, not scientific america, not national geographics, not the local news .. journalism's goal is to communicate a point of view, to think otherwise is just too naive (advance apology if this hurts anyone's feelings). getting across a political point of view is the end result of most journalists' goals. this is usually a call to action (just considering taking action is already a political statement), whether in environmental, religion, etc issues.
that travelogue is hosted by a few different sites - i had to weave the various pages into a seamless site! i think once some of the pages expire (i think that's beginning to happen), i may replicate it into my blog, but not sure yet .. i have other blog projects queued up.
so, how do you find time to post such insightful entries? i find that i just have nothing to say most of the time!

Nam, There is just so much political blogs going on right now. My attention on those however is short-lived because when we discuss politics (the same as religion), everyone seems to think they are all right! Haha! I actually would like to blog about those, since here in NL we have many soceity concerns regarding politics (say no to EU constitution, extreme leftists that are against muslims, foreign immigrants or dutch citizens with foreign blood are found to be 4.5% more criminal than the real dutch), and religion (the rest of the word harping on NL as a demoralized country, islam in Europe, catholics prefer a progressive pope).... but I guess this will be a pandoras box of onions! But I do agree with you on "no pure objective reporting", thats why BBC or CNN goes through my skeptical eye. They are all censored and in certain degrees biased. Heck, even history was altered. I believe that the powers that be long time ago were influential in putting the annals of history that we are currently reading and basing our stories now. The blind could be leading the blind. Look at China and Japan now, they are giving each other the cold shudder because of a book that altered the war in China with the Japanese. OMG, didn't I just talk nonsense politics, haha. I will stop.

Amy, Yeah, thats actually my plan, I am traveling alone or I am looking for a friend to travel with (anyone wanna apply? haha). I can travel anytime for a 3 to 4 days long weekend stay, maybe every 2-3 months. Don't worry Amy, pupunta ako dyan, isa-isa lang because there is so much to see in Europe! And I prefer to stay in a city or place for at least 3 days. I hate just passing by, I want to experience the place. Next month May (or June), Dutchman and I are going to stay for a long weekend in Berlin (Germany), this will be a teaser holiday for our summer holiday which we don't know where to go yet... but it seems like (at the back of my mind) it could be Portugal. Our summer holiday MUST be in a BEACH/RESORT. When are you leaving for London?
