Strappy wedges and Spectacles
I am lying low for a little bit *snicker*, ha-ha, just a little bit, because my blog has been greatly SEXED UP and INTOXICATED for this whole week. From ladyboy’s to hookers to dildo’s and live sex show poses in Amsterdam’s RLD. Man, just reading that makes some people sweat. It just gets better and better! Well, not that there’s anything wrong with that… but, my brains right now are clogged up to the 7th heaven from much stress at work.
I need some light subject, such as --- FASHION.
Long voluminous hair... strappy platform wedges... and check this out, the come back... Jackie O spectacles, they are in!
I am a person who has no paramour loyalty to a specific brand. I buy any brand --- the never-heard-of-brand, the signature-brand of course, and the what-have-you-brand. To me, it doesn’t really matter what logo sticks out of my body. I am more particular with fashion justice, if the damn thing looks good on me.
Well I bought a cheapo €10 1970’s style oversized owl spectacles last February in Madrid. I saw them in the downtown alleys of Puerto de Sol. Just the right timing since these eye accessories are now “in”, says the fashion gurus. Before I bought them, I was for a moment, a bit unsure --- Should I buy the chic D&G I saw earlier? Or should I settle for this €10 one?
*tries to debate internally with herself* (yeah, don’t we girls do this when shopping?!)
Must I rejoice? I have been bitten by the Dutch bug for I have settled for price.
In addition, I have also learned cunningly the art of announcing to family and friends any value for money or I-bough-it-cheap purchases. Believe me, they are an absolute stimulating discussion during Dutch birthday parties.
Here is the drift: the cheaper you bought an item, the more you are obligated to tell everyone!
Quite ironic isn’t it? But in this society, bragging about how expensive you bought your Armani tight pants means you are just a plain bah hambug retard. But to proclaim your € 10 clearance sale skirt is a profound consumer accomplishment!
Yeah, yeah, right.
On the other hand, when the weather here in NL gets better, I’ve got to start hunting those strappy platform wedges and sandals. They are just oh so smashing perfect for holidays. Dutchman and I have decided to go to Portugal for our beach holiday this summer, so I better get ready with all the girly paraphernalia’s.
I would not tarry! Grab those 1970’s spectacles, they really look groovy this spring, what more when its summer when you need it the most?
And when you buy them strappy wedges and sandals, please do not forget to pedicure, lol.

Sha, I know!!! Value for money is the key. Remember that pic of me with the Capri styled jeans in the Philippine Airlines airport taken last December? I bought them in Landmark for half the price of PHP400, I think that was already PHP200 (less than 3euros!) or less. Crazy haha.

ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I already bought my summer sandals, and I can tell you one thing: they don't have a high heel on them like in your pictures! Oh my, I can't really walk on any heel that is past about 3cm tall!
Oh, one more thing, in our family we don't discuss the price of b-day gifts. I thought that was taboo in any society? Or maybe your Dutchman's family is quite unique? LOL, I come from a family that likes to show off so usually the bigger the present the better(my dad's family), but my mum's family doesn't really care, as long as it's been bought with a good heart you know:D!

ReplyDeleteI am gonna go to the centrum now (after this post) and see what there is to buy for summer. Lots of nice colors available... but wearing sandals now is too cold for 10C by day and 5C by night!
I don't mean about telling everyone how much you bought the gift. What I mean is that it is NORMAL in holland to tell everyone how cheap you bought an item. It's all about "goedkoop" (cheap), "aanbieding" & "uitverkoop" (sales), "korting" (discount) and "de waarde van het geld" (value for money) which are very typical Dutch. Everything must be "een voordeel", hehe.
A french classmate of mine told me, "Why is it that the Dutch always talk about how cheap they bought something?". My response: "Hahaha". It tickled me, she's been here in NL for less than a year and she noticed it already!

Ah, I see what you mean now about the 'tell them how much you saved' rather that 'tell them how much you spent' approach! Funnily, all the Indonesidan girls here (as well as the Mexican girl) do the same! I don't think I do that often though, telling people how cheap something was... Someone is always right there telling me that they bought it cheaper somewhere else!!
ReplyDeleteBut I do recall some days ago a Chinese girl in my class showed me her Gucci watch and I asked her: is it real or fake? It's real of course! She told me, and she bought 2; one for herself and one for her mum (mothersday gift). She told me they cost her 800 Euro, and that's cheap for a Gucci watch... Of course, I couldn't leave without telling her that my Venice original watch I bought last summer only cost me 13.50Euro... LOL!
DL, Oh yeah! We also have that here, the 1 Euro store. I think theres like that in the Philippines, the 100 Peso something store(?). Forgot the correct name of the shop.
ReplyDeleteFunny, I always like the expression of people in their faces when I tell them how much I bought the stuff they thought was really cool. They just cant believe it!
I hate the "branded" mentality of Filipinos. Its so hypocritical when half of the population are below poverty level. I mean, I do buy brands and I have branded expensive stuff but I do not worship them (in the lines of obsession, gotta have them mentality because people will respect me blahdiblah). It's sooo shallow.

I think the Germans are less uptight than the Dutch when it comes to money. That's why the Dutch have the "frugal" or "stingy" stereotype, haha. The Germans have the "frigid" and "this cant be done" after their backs.

elentári, I guess these Indonesians have become Dutchified... remember they were colonized in the past by you Dutch, hehe. So perhaps the drop of influence is there!

Yeah, your reaction is VERY TYPICAL DUTCH here haha! I bet the Chinese girl has something different cooking in her mind! In Asia, "brand conscious" tops. People would die for a branded-signature stuff... its like IMAGE and thus commands RESPECT. It's basically the "show off" mentality. I dislike it a lot because of the reason I said to DL above.
