Women in their 30’s and their Breasts
Is it coincidental that most women diagnosed with Breast Cancer are women in their 30’s?
And by chance, this morning, I, together with the Dutchman just came from an appointment with our general doctor. I have a tiny lump in between my shoulders and breasts. I was not really worried about it, but I thought it was best to go see a doctor and have the little knob verified. And because of this, we had to cancel our Portugal holiday, which was supposedly planned this week, since we were not really sure if I would have to undergo further medical exams.
Well, with much anticipation, we came out of the doctor’s office with a huge sigh of relief. The tiny lump was just a Sebaceous Cyst, a benign cyst that can be left ignored, says the doctor. Now we can go to Portugal with our minds at peace!
Nonetheless, it was quite a story coming from there, to arrive at work, check my usual daily news read, and learn of Kylie’s crisis. I don’t know, I feel bad for her but I felt lucky for myself that the doctor’s diagnosis were negative.
With this entry, I encourage women entering the adolescence stage to always pay attention to your breasts. Check if you have small lumps around your breasts and under your arms, or if there are any physical changes that you noticed, not only with your breasts but also with your nipples. It is very important to report real quick any known modification of whatsoever form to your doctor. Most especially if you have a family history of breast cancer. This isn’t a simple matter… many women died of breast cancer or have suffered with it.

i'm really glad to see you blogging on this topic. though we oftentime see the pink ribbon, we forget that it represents a movement, a fight, with countless faces affected and supported by that narrow ribbon.
ReplyDeletei was first aware of that pink ribbon in college. having gone to a liberal arts college, where it was progressive even by california standards, i was a witness to pink ribbon rallies, 'take back the night' marches, au natural/unshaven legs, etc.
i can't say i was one of the male feminists (there where student clubs to support these male feminists!), but i'm amazed how much more awareness that's needed for women's health.
Whew, glad it turned out to be nothing. So sorry to hear about Kylie Minogue. Its not yet big news here about her.

My mama had a mammogram, x-ray and the works just recently because she found a lump in her left breast but it turns out to be cysts just like yours (although, she'll get it lasered out just to make sure it's nothing can be aggravating someday.)

ReplyDeleteNam, I think breast cancer these days are curable unlike years ago where it was near to impossible. In high school, my 30 something physics teacher died of this. We her students really didn´t know how to react. She would come to school with a wig because she has been bald due to the chemotherapy sessions. She eventually died. Very sad. Another 30 something actress here in NL (the gf of a pop singer), after giving birth to their son, she died a few months of breast cancer. My sister in laws friend had her 2 breasts removed because of the sickness but her mother died of it.

Lewlew, The doctor told me to just watch it out. The thing is,the tiny node is NOT in my breast really, it is between my breast and shoulder going to the neck. It's so tiny that it is unnoticeable, only when you try to touch it you will see. So guess won't do anything with it. But... it was the first time I have to be naked from waist to up with a male doctor! That was a bit funny with the Dutchman watching. Haha!
elentári, The strange thing is this: I WAS READY FOR THE WORST. I wasn't really afraid. I know many women are scared because it may or may not be curable depending on the stage of the cancer. But I was just surprised why I was so calm and very accepting to whatever diagnosis I will get. I guess living life to the fullest every single day makes a person grateful and contented. If your family history has a different cancer then pay attention to that. Genetics have higher risks to developing the same sickness.
Sha, Heee my dear! Yeah Dutchman and I were relieved. Yeah yearly check ups is always the best. As I have said, it was just so strange for me to feel like "nothing" while we were on the way. I was ready for the worse or whatever. But glad it turned out differently. My sister in law also had a cyst removed several months ago, the surgery was very quick. My doctor said the tiny cyst I have is nothing.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, when you think something like that is going to happen to your body, somehow you just accept it. I have the same thing, even though I never had an experience like that (my imagination is sometimes not so friendly). In my family history there's all kinds of cancer: my grandfather (dad) had cancer in his ear first, so they took a chunk out of it, but in the end he died of lung-cancer (smoking), my aunt from my mum's side had breast cancer that she died from, my mum's cousin died of cancer last year, I even had a little nephew that was 8 when he died of a braintumor... so sad! So I don't know what to pay attention to in specific, I just pay attention to whatever pains I may feel anywhere, or if I notice any changes in my body at all! But I think food is also a big factor, I eat very healthy due to my allergies, and I live healthy, so I think I'm fine for the main part of my life. If something might happen, I'll just have to accept it, get treated and hope it will pass...

Elja, Oh dear, your family has indeed a lot of background on cancer sickness. Like you, I believe that FOOD is one of the biggest factor affecting your health, so that is where I am careful now.

Check those 2... she's a sexy nymph and she's only 5'2"!

It's so funny, I get strange emails from people asking help like I'm an agency or something, lol. Well the doctor said it is nothing, I believe him but maybe we will get a second opinion, though we really think its not a problem. Re: the Amsterdam Gay Pride Parade, there are some news that it MAY NOT be pushed through(?!) because of funds. Ack, but its not yet sure. thank you for the link of kylie; however, i've found info elsewhere -- i have an aversion to wikipedia -- it's a fascist organization run by kids with too much 'power' -- the content on that site is so heavily regulated (re: censored) that i cannot trust the content. they try to come off as benevolent dictators, but i see them as just re-writing history to fit their needs.

Hey Jorz, Kylie is very popular here, the "must have surgery" is flooded in yahoo news and broadcasted over entertainment tv networks like ET, Hollywood access and E. She's one of my favorite pop singer and i feel sad for her.
