Nightlife in Praia da Oura, Algarve’s THE STRIP

THE STRIP, is a must see and do if you are in Praia da Oura. This is a mile long one-way traffic road, jam packed with bars, cafes, disco clubs, restaurants, and a variety of touristy shops i.e. souvenir shops, wines & spirits shop, clothing shop, foreign exchange, mini-mart and travel agencies to name a few. Many of these are open until 12 midnight.

“The Strip” on a Saturday night

It is always busy here. The busiest days for “The Strip” are usually during weekends, however the crowd builds up starting Thursday night.

The area is visited mainly by the English and the Dutch. It’s a teenagers haven I must say. Lots of hot blooded boisterous English teenagers in groups. We had fun watching the (English) gals strutting the street in their Atomic Kitten attires. Pink high heels, cheerleader miniskirts, scanty tops, colossal pink earrings matching of course the pink high heels, mardi gras style make-up and peroxide treated hair. What a sight to behold. You can say we terribly enjoyed our nights teenage watching here on the strip.

The Dutch gals on the other hand were boring to watch. Just normal teenagers. I will stick my entertainment channel on the English gals as they make our nights =). But the strip really is a good mix of people from different age brackets. Its just that pink high heels stand out.

A local guy, well they were actually 3, on stilts inside the bar and disco.

The “La Bamba” bar/cafe and disco. Taken during the weekday evenings, think it was Tuesday, which was less busier.

“Sagres” beer for the Dutchman, I guess named after the Sagres Point, and a cocktail drink called “Caipirinha”, a mix of Cachaca, lemon, and sugar for me. It was rather sweet but I love its sharp lemon tang. Caipiranha is actually a Brazilian national drink but its roots can be traced to the Portuguese occupation in Brazil. The Portuguese started planting sugarcane in Brazil in the hopes of producing sugar. Little did everyone know that it gave birth to the sugarcane rum, Cachaca... and later on, the cocktail Caipirinha.

The party people in “Garage” disco club. Scottish kids in straw hats. They were dressed by the way in hawaiian flowered shirts and straw skirts. Fun!
