A proposal without a ring


I think I have become somewhat dutchified now because I have learned to appreciate Dutch songs. Ah, I have gone a loooong way in my Dutch integration, ha-ha!

The Dutch band Blof, they come from Zeeland [in the south of the Netherlands].

Nevertheless, I have a favorite single at this moment, from the band Blof, one of the really good local bands in the country. The title of the song: “Aanzoek zonder ringen” which means in English, “A proposal without a ring”.

Even though I can a little bit relate to the song [I am not married but in a partnership ergo without the ring -lol], what I love most with it is its tune and the fusion of the drums into the melody. It has so much character.

My friend Bubbles, who I was travelling with within the Balkans had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. Shanghai’s 5-Kilometer “Nanjing Road” is World’s Longest Shopping Street

For the traveller or tourist who is keen to shop and engage in the modern Shanghainese shopping lifestyle experience, the answer is a visit to Nanjing Road. I suggest multiple visits since this shopping street is 5-kilometers long! Shopping during travelling does not sit high up on my list. I do buy stuff but they are mostly a by-product of my travel activities. I do not travel to shop nor is it a travel activity. But I am always curious about shopping streets in large cities. I want to see what it looks like, what kind of stores they have, what products offer, perhaps there is a café on the corner street that I can sit and have a drink whilst I watch people go about with their shopping?
