Shopping at the Ventimiglia Market, Italy

I was not very enthusiastic about my visit to Ventimiglia. You can find my post here: Rundown Vintimiglia

So to cheer myself up, I went on to search for the local market. Yes, I love food and it makes me happy all the time. I wanted to bring home some dried sausages and other Italian fares.


This deli shop owner was coaxing me to take a foto of him, and so I did.


Droge worst! Spiced-cured-dried sausages, they are my comfort food all throughout the season.

Market Tip: When picking dried sausages, pick the hard ones, they are usually the tastiest.

A few weeks back Dutchman was complaining that the sausages I brought from Spain before the Riviera trip were not tasty enough. He wasn’t into it and in fact I still have 2 left in the cupboards. I am now seriously doubting if we will ever get to eat them before they hit the expiry date. So I promised Dutchman I will buy a bag of Italian dried cured sausages in this Italy work/pleasure trip. He is sometimes a copycat; he tends to follow whatever I like and what I am currently obsessing on.


Tomatoes and artichokes are always present in the Italian kitchen. These special voluptuous tomatoes come from Sicily.


A variety of fresh hand-made pasta.

I have read that every Friday there is an open market in Ventimiglia and its when the French come over here to buy Italian goods and foods. Designer knockoffs, replicas and look-alikes of luxuriant varieties are the specialty of Ventimiglia as well. Not for me though.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. We got lucky because Medjugorje was on the way to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is our next stop. Half an hour into our driving, we reached Medjugorje. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
