Quick visit in Friesland
A week before we flew to the Philippines for the summer holiday, we visited our friends in Friesland up north. We visit them twice in a year, the first visit being a social party they throw for their close friends and the second is the birthday of their youngest son. Dutchman is the godfather.

There have been many changes with their house since the last time we visited. At the back they have laid a wooden deck with transparent glass railings. The effect of the glass railing is very arresting I should say and I like the idea that when you walk outside the kitchen you are on a deck overlooking the canal. Beautiful. The deck in a way extends the living space.
Now speaking of houses, it’s just recently that the housing market in Holland has started to crumble. A bit delayed I guess. There has been a major uproar in the Makelaar industry as real estate agents have been all the while wielding to protect their own interests. A member of the press squealed! This press individual attended a real estate gathering and heard confirmation from the group of subtly giving misleading information about the housing crisis to the market. Obviously nobody knew this individual in the audience was press! And on today’s news, as feared and expected – Dutchman has been warning me about this for months – Rabobank predicts house prices will drop down to 6% this year.
So we wait and see until the market is stable. Good things come to those who wait.
Anyway, we are supposed to go again to visit our friends in Friesland this weekend for the second reason but we begged off having just returned from our long holiday. We’ll go visit them at the end of the month and I’ll combine this trip with a stopover in the morning until early afternoon to Hattem (pretty little town!) as it is Dikke Tinne Festival at the end of the month!
I’m already looking forward to it whilst Dutchman is airing his complaints. He reminded me that he dislikes charming little vintage villages and folkloric festivals with characters springing out to life from a fairytale book. How can someone dislike something like this??? *shakes head*
