Akershus Fortress in Oslo
The Akershus Castle built around the 1300 is situated on top of a hill overlooking the Oslo Aker Brygge harbour and Oslofjord. The Norwegian Royal Family used Akershus as their residence during the Medieval Period. This fort has also been besieged many times by the Swedish but was never captured. Prisoners have been incarcerated here too.

Dutchman told me this is the first underground parking in the world -built during the war. Next foto is a peak to Aker Brygge, the gate just under the Resistance Museum.
Nowadays, the place is used by the Norwegian Armed Forces and the last significant event here was in 1945 and 1948, just after the World War II, when Vidkun Quisling, defunct prime minister of Norway who collaborated with the Nazis and two other members of his cabinet were assassinated by firing squad over acts of treason. Norway, like the rest of Europe has since abolished the death penalty.
This event marked a new etymology, the birth of the word, quisling – quisle – quislingism. Thanks to Vidkun Quisling. Fortunately, he didn’t have any children to leave a painful reminder of his treachery. I would hate to have a family name that means traitor.
The Norwegian Royal Family mausoleum is also placed here.
There was a wedding at the inner courtyard of the castle. The place is usually off limits to visitors but the gate was open so I sneaked in and pretended to be part of the entourage and took fotos, hehe.

The best part of this fortress is the beautiful views to Oslofjord and Aker Brygge. Anyone can easily spend the whole afternoon here relaxing and picnicking while watching the scenery.
In fact Dutchman and I spent a few hours here. While I went around inspecting every nook and cranny, the Dutchman stayed behind and lay down on the grass and did his favorite pastime, what else, napping and suntanning.
