Hasta luego Cancun! Tengo mucho frio Amsterdam!

I really need to learn Spanish. I’ve actually studied 1 semester of Spanish when it was then a mandatory subject in the curriculum for colleges and universities in the Philippines, circa 1987. Back then I hated the subject and never learned a thing (my friend and I were busy polishing our nails in bright colours such as blue and green during class, really!) but right now I am so regretting. I was a lazy brat, typical teenager behavior of my kind I guess.

Furthermore, I do not understand why the Philippine government passed the bill to exterminate (well, with the deep emotional scars harvested from the conquistadores this is indeed the appropriate language to use) the obligatory learning of Spanish for two years in the educational curriculum. Come to think of it, it was a VERY stupid decision! A terrific chronic case of myopia. Filipinos could have taken advantage of learning another language. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the business world! ARRGGH.

Enough of my languages rant but I am trying to commit to learning Spanish before I turn 50. Who knows, we might buy a vacation house in Spain.

Alright, I got loads of fotos for this Mexican trip (covering Quintana Roo and Yucatan regions) but I need to work on them first. Here are a few teasers for now and a video too.

1 Euro is $17.43 Mexican Pesos... it is very strange in Mexico but the Peso sign is actually a Dollar sign there. Middle foto are some Mexican notes and coins, the texture and design of the notes are similar to the Dutch Guilder while the colors are so Euro inspired.

Check point with military soldiers somewhere in Yucatan province (east of Quintana Roo), taken when I was visiting Chichen Itza. They did not search our bus though.

Here is a little "Tequila Museum" I saw in a souvenir shop in Playa del Carmen:

The traditional way of crushing the Tequila-Agave plant by Tahona (stone wheel).

The distillery oven loaded with Agave Pinas.

The aging process of Tequila.

A mammoth Centenario Tequila bottle in Cancun International Airport, the bar where I spent my last $110 Mexican Pesos. I had White Russian though.

We got serenaded in the bus! Bus was driving to downtown El Centro and this is taken at the last stretch of the Hotel Zone in Cancun before entering the downtown area.

So I am back in Amsterdam and really glad to be home again with the Dutchman.

I was wearing slippers during the flight, didn’t have time to change because my pick up was sharp on time while my bus got caught in traffic (was doing a last minute wandering in the Hotel Zone). I was panting like a mutt from running from the bus stop to the hotel my lungs almost dried out on me. It was then that I realized I have been bingeing too much in this work trip slash vacation, what a shame really. I could not even run properly without having to catch my breath.

Flight was uneventful. Before landing, the pilot announced that it’s -3C in Amsterdam and when I picked up my luggage at the baggage claims area, a lady on the same flight laughingly commented about my slippers. Of course lady I am not walking outside with just my slippers on; I’d probably lose my two legs from hypothermia! It was freezing cold, the grounds were covered in white and when I arrived in Utrecht, it was snowing.

Strangely I am not suffering from any jetlag right now. I have muscle pains though from the heavy weight of my baggage.
