Quick stop in Harmelen

This is a bit of a late post but I am going to post this anyway because I love to chronicle the places I have been to, even in the nearby villages here in Utrecht. Someday when I am old and cannot travel and do much, I can look back, read this blog and enjoy the fotos.

Last month before the Spain holiday, Dutchman and I went biking to Harmelen, a little village here in Utrecht. We biked via Zandweg and Rijksstraatweg along the tranquil Leidsche Rijn canal, a very nice route with beautiful houses on both sides of the water.

I need to bike more often. Klooster Hoeve Brassiere in Harmelen, they have a very impressive entrance.

In Harmelen we stopped for a quick drink. We were thirsty but not hungry and Dutchman found this really cool place across the church. A garden restaurant, a brassiere called Klooster Hoeve. Even though we haven’t eaten here, with the service and how the restaurant looks (ok, looks can be deceiving), we both concluded that this would be a good restaurant to spend your money on.

Maybe next time when we see ourselves here we will try their apple tart, with the coffee of course but tea for me.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. We got lucky because Medjugorje was on the way to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is our next stop. Half an hour into our driving, we reached Medjugorje. Parking was not easy to find, but we struck lucky and found a space not too far away from the Saint James Church. Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
