Off to Zurich, Switzerland

The trip will be quick and this is all work—no play.

There’s one thing I’ve learned about Switzerland, they are like Belgium in some ways. In Belgium there is the on-going fissure between the Dutch speaking group in the north and the French speaking group in the south and I guess officials in the European Union in Brussels are just counting the days when the marriage will finally be over, or will this be—till death do us part? We will see.

Nevertheless, it looks like there is a similar sentiment creeping in the Alps and lakes of Switzerland, but maybe trivial in comparison to Belgium. You know, the Swiss Germans in the north are not really that fond of their Swiss French cousins in the south....

Hmm, makes you wonder what is wrong here. North vs South? French vs everything else? OK, pun intended.

My friend Bubbles, whom I was travelling with in the Balkans, had a request that we stop over at Medjugorje. We got lucky because Medjugorje was on the way to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is our next stop. Half an hour into our driving, we reached Medjugorje. Parking was not easy to find, but we struck lucky and found a space not too far away from the Saint James Church. Medjugorje or Medugorje is a world-famous Catholic pilgrimage site due to the Our Lady of Medjugorje, who claimed to have seen a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, to 6 Bosnian children at  Križevac Hill .

Bangkok, Thailand: The Story Behind the Impressive Serpent Statue at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport

If you fly out from the new Bangkok ‘Suvarnabhumi’ International Airport, the huge, colourful and impressive mythical statue popular in Thai and Indian culture, the 3-headed serpent Naga (his name Vasuki) in a spectacular tug-of-war scene with its mid-section body wrapped around a stone, which is actually a mountain, and Vishnu one of the supreme deities in Hindu is sitting on top, will greet you as you finish immigration and step inside the airport’s duty free shopping area. You just have to stop and be dazzled by it. The whole installation is impressive and as I took pictures I wondered what the story is behind this scene. After much googling around, I found out that the statue is very famous in Hindu culture and religion. This legendary scene is called ‘Samudra Manthan’ in other words in English – the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’.
