Sailing to Formentera from Ibiza and sleeping on the Catamaran
Halfway through our sailing around Ibiza Island I became unwell, not seasick but sick with an awful throbbing head. I missed out on the jet skiing and the swimming. The swimming I can skip as I don’t really dare swim in the deep, however, my colleagues were making (a raucous) fun about it.
In the Netherlands, swimming is an integral part of a child’s primary education, as early as age 4. They have mandatory swimming diplomas: ‘Swimming Diploma A’ for basic swimming and ‘Swimming Diploma B’ for advanced swimming. By the time they are 6 years old, they can swim unattended.
Anyway, I have a valid excuse not to swim this time: I had a searing headache.
So after the jet skiing and swimming nearby Ibiza we set on off to Formentera Island. The guys raised the catamaran’s mast for the half an hour journey.
Sailing to Formentera
Formentera is 19 x 6 kilometers in size located south of Ibiza. There is a public boat that runs between Ibiza and Formentera from the marina.
When we reached the island, we anchored a few hundred metres from the shore. I was slightly disappointed because I wanted to set my foot on the beach with the plan of swimming along the shore. As mentioned earlier, I cannot swim in the deep; I just do not dare. But helaas, that didn’t happen. My colleagues told me though that the beach across us is a nudist beach. They managed to swam ashore and were caught by surprise at what welcomed them, lol.
Afterwards we had dinner on the catamaran while anchored at Formentera. By this time my headache has reached code level red. My head was really about to explode. Naturally I wasn’t in the mood to take more fotos except for the few ones I made (see above). I felt so horribly sick, I barely ate my dinner. We had chicken stew + baked potatoes + salad. They were raving about the chicken and all I wanted was to throw up. The aspirin I took did not help at all. ARGHHH.
When we sailed back to Ibiza, I slept soundly together with 2 of my colleagues on the net—the trampoline surface of the catamaran. It was very nice and relaxing laying on it while hearing the lullaby of the sea waters splashing underneath us and the smooth swaying movements of the boat that is rocking us slowly to sleep. I badly needed the half an hour lay down body stretch and shut eye.
Just before we reached Ibiza, I woke up feeling a bit, just a wee bit, better. I caught the beautiful Ibiza sunset as well.
Our bus was already waiting at the marina to bring us back to the hotel. The team retreated to each other’s room and reconvened at the hotel bar for drinks. Later, they went to another bar and the drinking session went all the way to the wee hours in the morning, while yours truly was sleeping like a baby in my room—12 hours straight, to recover.
The next morning I was feeling 90% better. I badly needed the 12 hour sleep!
Now, that did not mean I forgot to drink and party in Ibiza. Stay tuned for more stories and fotos of Ibiza soon.
