Stockholm Sites: Streets and Shopping Lanes of Norrmalm District
When I was shopping in Norrmalm District in the morning I obviously forgot to take fotos. I was only able to take fotos later in the afternoon and during twilight when I had time to walk around and enjoy the surroundings.
I always love taking fotos. It’s not really the art of taking the foto itself that I love. I am not into the technical and aesthetic side of photography. I don’t care about those scientific and technology crap. Aesthetics I may mind but I refuse to become a photography nerd just to get a great foto.
I cannot see myself sporting a DSLR as well. Too heavy and bulky. They are not even fashionable? Plus they shout TOURIST and are magnets for trouble (read: robbery). What I care most when taking fotos is capturing my travels—the scenes around me, the people I came across with and their gestures, the real happenings that I encountered, the architectures I admire, the everyday art, the normal daily life, the FOOD and many others that interests me through my eyes. I want to be able to capture and preserve them so that in the years to come I can look back and say, ‘Oh wow, I remember this!’
In short, I like to keep my fotos real, at least through my eyes.
Norrmalm District is located in the most central part of Stockholm. The Lower part of the district is dubbed as ‘The City’ while the Upper part is more residential.
‘The City’ or the Upper part of the district is a very busy place, it’s the shopping centre of the country actually, home to the famous pedestrian shopping lane, Drotnninggatan. Reminds me of Kalverstraat in Amsterdam, just less crowded and they have better stores. Stockholm main central train station is located in this district as well.
Interestingly, they have massive H&M shops here. Amazing, block by block, H&M shops beside each other, in front of each other, it is like a H&M monopoly on Drottninggatan. I am not really a big fan of H&M but I buy my basics here every now and then.
Norrmalm district is a great place to use as a base as well to explore Stockholm, especially for women travelling alone as it is a buzzing place, thus safer in terms of being in a secured environment. Stockholm is a safe city though but we never know huh. I always use my street smart instincts whenever I travel—stick to where the crowd is.

This may be in Kungsgatan, not sure but I remember just walking straight from my hotel which is located on Kungsgatan.
This may be on Birger Jarlsgatan, along the border between Norrmalm and Ostermalm Districts.
